I got my camera today and charged the battery all the way and put everything in the camera. I did a test movie just to experiment with it and took a 15 second video, and then deleted it, and now it says the memory card is full. but it's not! I don't understand. Please help! Thanks
Hi, First, lets try formatting the card. But be aware that it will erase everything on the card. 1 Turn on the camera 2 Press the Menu button 3 Toggle once to the left to get the Setup menu (the one with the hammer/wrench icon) 4 Toggle down to Format 5 Select OK and press the Set button. To perform a low-level format, press the up arrow and then the right arrow to add the check mark. After you do this, exit the menu by pressing the Menu button. Take some still photos first. Download them to the computer but don't delete them from the card yet. Disconnect the camera from the computer (or if you are using a card reader remove the card). Delete the images from the card by using the menu in the playback/review mode. Let me know if this solves anything.

Hi, I was trying to get the date and time stamp on the downloaded stamp. when I try to seelect the date stamp from the Menu It is set to off and is not active. I am not able to select it. Can some one help me ?? Thanx INdu
You can download the manual from the link below: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=323&modelid=14901 From page 37 of the manual it looks like you can only select the time stamp in "postcard" mode. Also the date & time need to be set in the camera first. Please update the question & let us know if the information given was useful to you - Good Luck!

camera keeps saying lens error restart camera, how do I do that?
keep saying lens error restart camera
my camera keeps saying restart camera. everytime i put it on it comes back off and says restart camera.
Hi
What you are seeing is a generic stuck lens error message, turning off the camera and turning it on again will not fix the lens unfortunately.
Your
lens needs to be cleaned or repaired, and if it cant be repaired it
needs to be replaced. There are online places that will do it for a
decent price and there are others that overcharge by way too much.
Fixya rules prevent me from giving you a link to anything off Fixya that would help you fix your camera.
Good luck from....

i have a cannon sd1000 , bought 1 month back. suddenly its stopped capturing pictures. i.e while in shot mode the display is black and not showing and capturing the image.but able to access al the menus. while in preview mode able to view the images already taken.
After some inspecting of the camera it seen the issue lies with the lens, not the camera itself so don't go banging the camera up or you might damage some other part and the camera will be broken for real. Inside the lens is a closer which block the internal system from capturing image. The closer look just like the one you see before turning on your camera but it's smaller and it's inside the lens way in the far back. Look carefully and you'll see it - you will see the closer if your screen is black while in capture mode otherwise you will see a nice round glass (the internal lens for capturing image/video).
Think of if like this, imagine an eyeball with its eyelid close. That's what happened when the screen is black while in capturing mode.
HOW TO FIX IT: In order to fix the black screen while in capture mode and cost as little damage to your camera as possible, simply turn on the camera in either picture or video mode and look inside your lens, there should be a closer in the far back end. Gently hit the lens a few times until you don't see the closer no more and only a round glass and your camera should begins capturing image and video again.
Good luck to you all. And remember don't use anger to force your camera to works or you will regret it.

Can I use my canon Powershot SD 1000 as a webcam?
I tired to do this with my SD600 and could not figure it out but I think it is possible with some changes to the camera like this
http://lifehacker.com/387380/turn-your-point+and+shoot-into-a-super+camera
anyway I have not tried it because they don't support the sd600 so I have no idea if this is safe or works.

I've had my camera for several years now and all of a sudden my flash quit working. The camera still takes the pictures but there is not light ommitted from the flash bulbs. I've tried adjusting the flash settings but it doesn't no appear to have any effect on the flash. HELP I'M SO FRUSTRATED.

I have a Canon Powershot SD1000, and my flash suddenly stopped working. I have restored all settings but nothing seems to work. Even when I put the flash setting to "On" instead of auto, it still does not work. Maybe the bulb is broke? Please help!
You are correct in saying that the bulb needs to be replaced. Take the camera to any camera shop and they will replace it for you.

I went camping a few weeks ago and it got pretty cold at night and there was dew in the morning. My lens won't focus now, my brother said there is probably moisture in the lens. It seems like a simple problem, I really don't want to spend $100-$150 to get it fixed or get a new camera. Can anyone help???
If you can get a hold of some dry nitrogen and setup a vacuum bottle of some sort using the food vacuum storage bag machine. Place the camera in the bottle. Seal the bottle with a top that has a dual vent idea where they both have a valve shutoff . One to the vacuum one piping in the nitrogen. Nitrogen is a no lethal non flameable drying agent they use in Binoculars to prevent fogging of the inside lenses.. Shut the Nitrogen side gas off. too. Open the vacuum side and pump down as much as possible there will be a max I do believe minus 25 foot pound per cubic inch of Mercury! Nature of this beast. Now shut that valve the camera is now vacuum packed. Turning on the Nitrogen open that port to the vacuum slowly not to make a sudden pressure change and let in all the Nitrogen it will take without blowing off the cap! If it is a pickle jar the top will pop like opening a sealed jar of pickles. .
Any moisture the nitrogen touches will be removes. This can be done if the camera's parts are not air tight. If they are then this problem would never had happened...
Simple and a cost of a very small jar of compressed Nitrogen is way less than 40 dollars. The vacuum machine should be a household item since you can afford a digital camera because you do preserve food and leftovers in savers bags

how to transfer pictures from my Canon PowerShot SD1000 digital camera to my computer
There are two ways of doing this:
I would recommend the second method since it reduces the wear and tear on your camera and allows you to access the photos easier through Windows Explorer or Finder (MacOS).
Hope that helps!

Camera not displaying images as seen through viewfinder. The screen is black. Image controls and info can be seen but the picture is just black. Takes photos which are also black; but previous photos display when review mode is selected. Camera powers on, lens extends normally all menus and controls display. Photo taking mode AND movie mode both show black screen if the shutter is clicked the captured image is black. A captured "black:" image can be both recorded AND erased. Battery removed and reinstalled; powered up normally but no change. Selected "Disp" on and off; tested good but still black screen. Selected all menus and controls to check; all normal but images displayed and captured are black. Selected photo review mode; all images taken previous display normally; any taken after problem commenced are black. Any shutter click since then saves a black image
A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras, particularly for the SD1000. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).
To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.
By the way, my wife's SD1000 also has this problem every once in a while. I easily fix it by using the following steps from the link: powering on the camera, opening and closing the battery door, and
flicking the end of the lens barrel with my fingertip (or you can tap it with a pencil as discussed in the link).
