Acer Aspire 1642ZWLMi Notebook Questions & Answers
My acer 1642WLMi has lost it's sound completely
Check the sound is not muted. (Click on speaker icon at the bottom right of your screen. Move the slider all the up with your mouse. Ensure the small box is cleared)
Also, right click on computer on the start menu and select hardware tab, and open the device manager. Look for sound device and right click on that. Check the drivers are ok for the sound chip you have. You may go to the Acer website if you can, locate support for your model and download and install fresh drivers for your OS if they can be found. Reply here if you try that and don't know how.
You may try an external speaker / headphones connected to appropriate socket on the back of your computer if it's a desktop. If you hear sound it might be that the internal speaker has gone wrong (does your computer give one beep when you turn it on ? this is telling you most things are ok including your sound system. Open a cmd window and type 'beep' the computer should beep I think)
there are many other things it might be, and more if you don't have the as-purchased set-up, but that's enough for now

Battery- Will boot without battery, freezes with battery
It
sounds like your computer's battery settings are messed up. First, check your battery settings. Perhaps they are somehow set to put your computer to sleep when battery power comes on. If that's not the problem, go to
device manager, open batteries, and look at the properies of everything there to be sure all is working. If nothing appears wrong, update or
replace the drivers from your manufacurer's website if available there. It looks like you have an Acer--I know thatthey have some battery recalls out. Let me know how it goes. If you are in warranty, get help from Acer: Acer's basic service availability period, 8:00 a.m.
to 5:30 p.m. (CST), Monday through Friday. Acer Customer Service at
(800) 816-2237. If you get someone who says to reintall everything instead of addressing your problem itself, demand to speak to a supervisor (this happened to me) who knows what's what.
BTW, Computer companies like to sell you expensive batteries. You must
always remove your battery while you are plugged in, or you will
greatly reduce its lifetime of about 300 or so full charges. Also, to
break a new battery in properly, so thatit will take a full charge, charge it for at least 15 hours, then
let it completely drain and recharge 3 times. (that's in your Acer manual.) let me know what happens.
My epson printer nx420 starts to print but then
have you try to evaluate your paper?, sometimes when it feed your paper the printer dis-align it and cause the paper jamming during printer. Try 1 by 1 load of paper, if the problem still the same then try to load atleast 10pcs of paper. Just a thought hope it helps thanks.
I forget password how solve
Don't worry. It's a simple procedure. When u start up the computer, press ctrl+alt+delete twice. Then in the password box that appears, type administrator in the username and hit enter. Once you are in the administrator account, hit start, then control panel, then users then your account. Now change the password. You will only lose your msn or saved passwords for sites that you have.

No recovery disks, no recovery
have you tried to use the recovery menu in BIOS which can be accessed by typing Alt +F10 at bootup. I suppose you still need to be lucky enough to have the hidden partition X: available on the hard disk.
If not then it is back to ACER support and beg for a Recovery CD.
Good luck
Acer aspire 1642 frozen mouse
Connect an external USB mouse to get at least the cursor to work, then download the latest touch pad drivers from Acer's site
Check that you have not disabled the mouse pad (FN and F7?)
If that fails, you may need to dismantle the laptop and check the small ribbon cable that connects the touch pad to the motherboard has not come adrift.
After that it looks like physical failure of the trackpad / touch pad assembly
My Acer Aspire 5810TG does
Until you can locate the underlying cause of the problem (could be mechanical, or your particular battery power configuration settings), you can try this:
Open up a command prompt window (Start Menu > Accessories > System; or, Start Menu > Click "Run" > Type cmd in the box and press enter)
Once the command prompt session has opened, type "shutdown -s" (without the quotation marks) and press enter.
You should see a box pop up warning that shut down will occur in 30 seconds. After the countdown completes, your computer should begin the shutdown routine. This command works for restarting the computer as well, just change "-s" to "-r"

Hi. I have an Acer
If Acer do not have them to download online, then Win7 is not supported and you will have to return to XP. Trying Vista drivers, if available, may work as they are very similar.
I have deleted my launch
The ACER recovery disks have all the programs on them. you can insert the disk and restore any that you may have deleted.
If you don't have your disks, you can download the applications from ACER's web site.
