The alarm went off and the digital reading said GAS-then flashed a code: 226. Any idea what that refers to? The gas company came over and got zero redings for explosive gas.
I just had the same problem (second time in about two months this has happened). I went to the manual, as recommended, and they had this helpful bit of information:
Q. What do the numbers mean on the digital display when
I press the “Test/Reset” button?
A. The numbers you see when you press the Test/Reset button
are NOT a CO reading or a Gas alarm. This is a simulated reading
the alarm displays as it tests its electronics. The numbers displayed
when the Test/Reset button is pushed should be between
100 to 400 (usually around 200). These numbers are shown after
the “Gas” test is complete.
Then later, they give another helpful tip...if the system does not work as described, replace it immediately. Good advice. I wonder what manufacturer I'll try this time. Repeated false alarms render these things utterly useless.

hi: i have a kidde nighthawk carbon monoxide detector and it has an error code on it.....it keeps beeping every few minutes........dont have the manual........do you have any insight? thanks
Detecotrs have a limited lifespan of 5-7 years. So sounds like you need new one (It's not worth to buy just a sensor). Take a look on amazon: Amazon com Carbon monoxide detector (watch out on reviews). I hope this was helpful. cheers

When the batteries have been inserted the display shows 888. after a few seconds an Err message is displayed followed by a single beep. The Err message stays and a single beep is repeated every 20-30 seconds. Help
Here is a link to the manual, or you can call the consumer hotline at 1-800-880-6788

i keep getting an error code when plugged in
I have the same problem....The answer is the detector has died. This kind of detector has a warranty for 5 years. Mine was assembled 8 years ago and just died this morning. 8 years is good for this kind of detector. The protection device inside wears out in time. Thats why you keep getting an err message.

My alarm LED red light is on and it beeps about every 30 seconds... why?
If detector is more then 5 years old it will beep every 30 seconde to wirn you the sensor in the detector needs to be replaced. bying a new detector would be better.

My nighthawk Kidde carbon monoxide detector keeps beeping every 25-30 seconds. Do I need to buy a new one?
Some models of Carbon Monoxide Detectors will give an audible beep every 25-30 seconds after it has sounded an alert alarm. This may have happened when there was noone home to hear it. A periodic beeping sound may also indicate it is time to change the battery.
Solution: Install a new battery and check your manual for instructions on how to reset the system. Check the expiry date on your unit, it needs to be replaced after 5 to 7 years, according to the manufacturer specifications.
If you are in doubt that your Carbon Monoxide Detector is not working effectively, REPLACE IT. Your safety and your peace of mind is worth it.

E09 CODE
Congratulations, error code "E09" is the grossly under-documented "planned obsolescence feature" called, rather matter-of-factly, "End of Life". This means that ~7 years after first being powered up, the unit will, BY DESIGN, cease to function, forcing you to buy a replacement. Would have been nice of Kidde to include THAT warning on the OUTSIDE of the package. Call their "Hotline" at 1-800-880-6788 and tell them what you think of that policy. If it is still under warranty (5 or 7 years depending on date of manufacture) they should replace it. In any event, buy another one; if they replace your first one you will have twice the protection. Not a bad thing. *Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, despite the handle. Words to live by: "Every creative act results from a sudden cessation of stupidity." -Edwin H. how long does the nighthawk model carbon monoxide detector last for.
I had 2 and they both did the ERR thing and stopped working within a week of each other and that was about 7 years.

my kidde carbon alarm chirp every 30 seconds and shows L6 on the dispaly, also the red light goes off and on
"L6" display & chirping sound, indicates you need to change the 9 volt battery in the detector.
If you have misplaced your User Guide, I have included a link to it, that you can download and print for future reference.
