Have you selected Optical output from the audio setup screen of the TV? That needs to be selected to transfer TV audio to the optical out of the TV.

There is no color wheel. This is an SXRD TV. If you have 389 at the ballast, then your ballast is bad. 5 flashes is a bad lamp driver. No TTL signal return to the mainboard. Put a new ballast in. Do not try and measure ballast output without good high voltage gear. The startup pulse is close to 20,000 volts.

Sony Lamp issueI see this so much that I am going to compose and save this answer:

3 blinks (it is in the owner manual) is "Lamp door not properlyclosed".

What is really wrong is if you remove the door and look edgewise it will likely be warped from the heat from the lamp.

1. On most of these but not all SONY knows of this and offers on many models to repair or replace the set for free---somemodels the heat also warps the area thelamp inserts in.

2. If you look at the back of the door there is a small plastic peg--it whendoor is installed engages a lever (small and designed to prevent the set frombeing used if door is open).

3. The way to prove if door is the problem is to with something not metalengage and hold the lever where the peg goes (you will have door off and alsothe large front plate giving access to lamp) and turning set on.

IF SET COMES ON AND WORKS DO NOT LOOK AT THE LIGHT FROM THE LAMP as it candamage your vision.

DO NOT OPERATE SET FOR A PROLONGED TIME WITH DOOR REMOVED OR THE FRONT PLATE(that covers access to lamp) attached as the heat with door removed can damagethe outer plate.

4. If set works then you have a few choices=Google the model number with"lamp door" or order it from Sony and replace it.

Please feel free to comment here (make a comment button) if you have questionsor concerns and it is important to me to know if this helped you or not

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
Blinking codes details to many popular brand TVs are given. Surf the site with patience.

bad power supply. Contact SONY for advice. They will pay for the repair and service call if it is still under warranty

If you are lucky, a new lamp will restore the sound as well otherwise you may require a new ballast unit as when the lamps explode, the supply board sometimes destroys itself.

You need a new bulb.

Look for a small switch that is pressed when the door is insert/closed. Close the circuit and it should work.

Most likely with a 5 blink error, your lamp driver aka ballast is defective. There is a chance however that your lamp is not in properly, or you got a defective lamp. Last case scenario is a defective G board, but highly unlikely.

unfortunately the optical blockissue kills any resale value except for the chassis boards value for used boards. Parting it out will be your best bet as alot of people may be needing the boards.

Read all the recalls and the class action lawsuit over this issue in these sets that was settled and ended last year.

The safety switch is there only to prevent the lamp from being able to turn on if door is open or removed, thats it.

You have really solved or answered your own question. 3 blinks is the door is not closed or is warped from all the heat, the safety switch in your case seems MIA, going to have to find it first, it is usually a blue lever type and I suspect the plastic tab is likely missing from the door.

I would order the door and find the safety switch, it did not just walk away.

You might also be interested to know a lot of these got so hot they fused the door to the cabinet or melted the enclosure around the lamp, had two where in order to get door off had to use a Dremel cutting tool, Sony paid for all this even though set was out of warranty.

Find the switch and if snapped off or melted it and the door will both have to be replaced.

The only reason to bypass the switch is a simple one, TO KNOW IF THE SET OPERATES WITH IT DONE---no long term use, just to know the issue will be fixed.

it is, called a optical light engine and that is about the most expensive part in the set.

Sony KDS-60A2000... | Answered on Dec 22, 2012 | 147 views

The most common issue with this set is the Optical light Engine

Is it bright and consistent over the entire screen or not?

The best way is to go to a unused video input and look.

color wheel

Follow the money or this case the voltage--follow power cord into the set and to the power supply board--there will be a fuse there---extremely unusual for there not to be blinking lights if the set does not turn on---
