Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED-IF AF-S VR DX Nikkor Lens - Page 3 Questions & Answers
Lens has lost ability to autofocus.
Nikon guarantees 5 year warranty to original purchaser. If your camera functions with another AF-S lens, then the problem lies with the 18-200mm lens. The AF motor unit needs replacement. Nikon should be able to repair the lens under warranty.
Make a copy of your receipt and go Nikon website to start repair service.
I want to know the parts number of the broken part
The only problem with ordering parts and doing a repair yourself is the re-assembly. Upon reassembly you will need the Nikon software and hardware to adjust and recalibrate the lens. This is not readily accessible as Nikon keeps this under lock and key for authorized service centers only.
Try sending it to PhotoTech Repair Service in NYC. They are Nikon authorized, and can do the repair under warranty if you still have it. Also if you join they're facebook page, they will give you a 10% discount.

Nikkor 18-200 mm VR with loose front ring and stuck zoom barrel
Unfortunately not. If the Nikon centre think it's been dropped, then you're stuck. They may well think so due to additional wear and damage caused as the initial fault progressed; this may well resemble the damage caused when a lens is dropped. You should really have sent it for repair as soon as the fault occurred.
All you can do is to write a letter of complaint to Nikon, asking them to intervene on your behalf with their authorised repair centre. It will help if you tell them how long you've been loyal to Nikon for and what other Nikon products you own; also state that if you must buy another lens that your money will instead go to one of their competitors instead and that when you replace your camera you will think hard before purchasing from Nikon again. It also helps if you tell them that you were well aware that you would be charged for any repairs caused by misuse, such as dropping your lens, and so would not have bothered to try and claim under warranty under such circumstances as it wasn't worth the risk of having to pay a big bill just to get a broken lens returned to you. Tell them that you have not dropped the lens and so you dispute their findings, and at the very least request that the lens is returned to you without charge so that you can get the lens examined by an independent repairer.
As long as your letter is polite, factual and states your argument clearly then you maximise your chances of getting them to revise their position to give you the benefit of any doubt.
Good luck.
I have the exact same problem
If your lens has an aperture ring, do note that most of these lenses require the ring to be locked at a certain position for it to work. In the course of using the lens, you may have accidentally unlocked the aperture ring and moved it out of position. This is a common problem.
To fix this error, try this:
1. Turn off camera
2. Turn the aperture ring clockwise and then lock it
3. Turn on the camera
If you still encounter the same problem, repeat the same steps but turn the aperture ring counter-clockwise. Hope this helps.
Nikkor af-s 18-200 VR not focusing
Please check your focus settings in the camera menu. Play around with the focus point from Single to 11 points. Also, try Auto mode as a quick way to test if the focus is working
Dear expert have following problem, by puting
Check to make sure the lens is attached properly. Remove the lens by rotating it clockwise. Reattach the lens by aligning up the mounting indexes (white dots) and turning counter-clockwise until you hear a click.
Also, try increasing your aperture value to more than f/22
My Nikon D50 and 18-200 lens has stopped working
I have a suspicion that your lens has become more loosely in use, that means that your lens will slide out from 35mm and out to 200mm if you point your camera downwards. I believe the autofocus then gets a problem finding a steady focus for you, and the camera shutter won't respond when you press it.
I found out that if I lock the focus with the AE-L button -keeps it pressed as I press the shutter, it responds instantly. A little annoying to do it, but easy to reach both buttons with your right hand, with your thumb on the AE-L button.
In the end you have to repair it, let a Nikon wrokshop fix it. It need to be tightened harder.

Send it in for service. If it was purchased in the USA and you sent in the Nikon extended service contract that comes free in every Nikon USA lens then you have a 5 year warranty that covers most parts and defects. The warranty does not cover abuse, dropping sand damage etc.
Auto focus at full zoom not responding Nikon D80 with 18-200mm VR
Hi - I own this lens and it manually focuses at all focal lengths (hard to see at 18mm unless your subject is extremly close). You may need to get the lens checked. BTW - Mine was set as follows when I checked for you:
- D80 was "on"
- M/A
- VR = Off
- Normal (not Active)
Hope this helps!

Hi,
I would test the lense on another camera (a friend? the shop next door?)
If it still does not work I only see sending it to the manufacturer for repair... through the shop you bought it or by contacting Nikon (it is a Nikon lense isn't it?) They can tell you how to get the lense to them (if it is not under garantee anymore, it can be cheaper sending it yourself than giving it to a shop - they may want to cash in on the repair too)
