Front display of Sony STR-DG800
This is a very very common problem with the STR-DG800. The displays are very bad about quitting. Sony has had problems with this since the receiver came out. Some people have complained about the display being out when they take it out of the box. Some last a couple of years. But it is for sure the biggest problem with the receiver. You can take it to a Sony service center to have it fixed. But I suggest a new receiver. Because they have done nothing to fix the display. So if you have it repaired, then it could go out again tomorrow. But it could last a couple of years. It is a risk. Should not cost more than $180 to repair the display. So it is your decision. Good Luck!
Hook up hdmi cable to receiver input have picture but no sound
HDMI is funny about having sound problems--it does not like to be connected when units are on or even powered up.Does the receiver have any other hookup options?about the only suggestion (presuming all is now connected correctly) is to remove power from TV, receiver, box if used for a while---make connections then power everything back up to see if when one or all units reboot it will work or not.
Front display on STR-DG800 receiver
Hello,
it seems the receiver is having a power problem. It might have worked fine in the past, but that's electronics for you. Power surge, irregular power supply, excess power supply, etc can affect the unit thereby not making it to power on.
This unit must have a power supply board in it where power enters from the mains. A capacitor, fuse, diode, etc may have been defective on the power board and maybe that's why its not making the unit turn on. There might also be some disconnection or something, inside the unit which is not making it to power on.
To actually find out what's wrong, you need to disassemble the unit with a screw driver and check what's wrong. You will be needing a meter in order to test the components on the power board, once you detect any bad component, you can make necessary replacement at any electronics accessories store withing our vicinity. This is the only way by which you can detect the problem.
Of course, testing the power board with a meter will require someone that has the ability. So it you can't, then you might be needing the help of a repairman or you can call a friend that has the ability to help you out.
I wish you the best of luck.
Sony Model: STR-DG800
You've got a short in one of your speaker wires either at the receiver (most common) or at the speaker itself. you should only have a 1/2" of each side of the speaker wire stripped to put on each terminal, and when you strip them, twist them so there are no frays in the strands that will touch the other terminal. The receiver is protecting itself from harm. Turn it off then disconnect all speaker wires, examine each wire carefully before reinstalling, then turn the receiver back on. If it still says protection, look at each speaker and reconnect your wires the same way. If you still have a problem, disconnect the wires again at the receiver and turn on, at this point, if it say's protection, it needs to be serviced. Hope this helps
Speakers make crackling sound and sound goes in
If the sound crackles when the volume is turned up or down there may be an issue with the volume switch. If the volume is going up and down on its own, I would recommend that you need a new unit as the cost would be greater to fix, then to replace.
Sony receiver str-dg800 will not power on.
Unplug the unit from the wall and remove the outer case. At the rear of the main circuit board is a fuse. Check the fuse to see if its blown. If not, go to the transfomer at the front of the receiver and check the fuses at the transformer.
I am unable to hear
check your connection be sure that the input terminal you plug in your tv is the input terminal that you selected on the input selector of the reciever.
How can i get my LCD LG in HD to play out of my
Ponder this question: what possible audio source is unique to the LG LCD TV? Answer: probably none.
So why do you need the TV audio to go to the Sony?
Wouldn't it make more sense (and be HIGHER Fi) to get TV-related audio from it's ultimate source instead of the TV?
Think digital audio, not watered down through the TV audio.
