Just a question for start: why are you still using the PolkAudio HT? Isn't that the job of the Sony?
You have a short somewhere. I'm assuming that you have tested the speakers and they are OK and the unit doesn't sends the short message when they are disconnected.
If the speakers are indeed good, since you can use the radio side without a problem it means that the short is somewhere on the devices attached to it or the HDMI controller. To find out where this short is located you will need to do some tests. First replace the cables.
Then you will need to remove all HDMI cables and join the tv directly to the BR and cable box using a new, one at a time. If they work then the problem is in the controller and to confirm that connect the tv and the devices thru the Sony using the analogue Composite AV connectors - the yellow , red and white ones - instead of the HDMI : replace the HDMI cables with analogue ones.
