My Sony PS-LX520 turntable skips with tone arm not moving

Check the needle, if its not that then you can check the tracking, the relationship between downward weight on the needle and lateral movement across the record. you will need the manual for the instructions
It can be tricky so if you are not sure then consult a good hifi shop or tech.

Hope this helps

Plays too fast

Either the speed switch is history or there is a belt problem. Get rid of it.

Sony PS-LX250H turntable speed adjustment on underside, how??

Great detective work.

Let's collaborate on this for the benefit of others who may have the same problem.

L.IN should be the point at which the Lead-In groove on the LP would be, where the tonearm will drop to play an LP
RET should be the point at which the tonearm will lift up and RETurn to its rest at the end of the LP

That leaves us with SW. If your source is right this will affect the Speed. I can't imagine what the W stands for.

Since this turntable lacks the traditional strobe light and dots along the platter rim for determining if it's on target speed-wise we have to improvise and make a Strobe Disc.

It has radial marks on it and you place it on the turntable like a record. The lights in your room running at 60hz will make it appear to be stationary if the speed is correct; slowly creeping CW if too fast; CCW if too slow.

Here's a link to a PDF from which you can print your own disc... http://www.extremephono.com/ftp/60Hz.PDF

Here's what you do. Lay the trimmed Strobe Disc on top of a record while it's playing one of the outer tracks. This is because the stylus imparts some drag so we want to factor it in.

Then adjust the screw exactly one turn Clockwise and note how the speed has changed. Trial and error should get you to where you want to be.

How do I adjust the speed of a Sony LX250H turntable? The answer is not in my manual.

Presumably you mean correcting the speed to play 45 and 33 correctly? Some turntables have the speed control(s) as a preset(s) built into the base on the underside of the unit. Often covered with a sticker. You simply remove the sticker and stick a small screwdriver in the thing and turn it. Others have the preset inside on a circuit board, got to by removing the bottom of the turntable. Others have it built into the motor itself. You should replace the belt first if the speed is slow on both 45 and 33, before adjusting the motor speed.

When I press Start the needle moves over, drops down, then comes back up and over and stops. It does this about 95% of the time.

did you try placing the needle on the record manually? Did it work okay then or did it do as you mentioned?

The turntable runs great for half the way throw the lp and then it speeds up to a 45 speed

Any infinitesimal change in belt temperature would not cause such a change in speed. The speed of your turntable is governed by an electronic circuit and this is where the trouble is. The cost of a repair is going to be mostly labor which may exceed the value of the value of the turntable.

Most likely the belt has come off or is worn. To replace a drive belt. Before starting unplug from mains power source. 1, Remove the rubber platter mat to expose the platter. 2. Put your thumb and forefinger through the two round holes and lift the platter off. You may need to give the centre spindle a light tap (whilst applying upward pressure) with a screwdriver handle or some similar tool that will not leave any marks or damage. 3. Remove the old belt and wipe the platter pulley and motor pulley with an alcohol swab to remove any old belt residue. 4. Place the new belt around the platter pulley making sure t is sitting flat without any twists. 5. Flip platter over the right way up. There are1or 2 larger rectangle shaped cut outs in the platter. 6. Through the cut out pinch up the belt and slip a finger or belt hook between the platter pulley and the belt gripping the belt ready to fit over the motor pulley. 7. Align the centre hole of the platter with the spindle and place platter back into position keeping a grip on the belt. 8. Slip belt over motor pulley and give the platter a light clockwise rotation to ensure the belt is riding correctly. 9. Replace the rubber mat and then run the turntable to ensure correct operation. Job done.

Platter/motor won't turn

I don't know the answer, but you have written one of the finest, most comprehensive problem descriptions I have come across. In mechanical scenarios, that is priceless. I'm sure a turntable guru will see it and go, "aw. I know what that is". Good Luck.

I have a crosley record player and the power will turn on then turn off within 2 seconds so my record player won't power up. I purchased a new adapter and it is still doing the same thing. What would

It sounds like some kind of overload inside the turntable itself. Taking off the underside of the deck might show a faulty part. Just trace where the power from the adapter enters and where it goes two. That should lead to the culprits. Overloads are generally caused by a short-circuited device. Most often a semi-conductor device.

A part came off and dont know where it belongs

You will need to lift felt on the platter section exposing the platter. Next you will need to pull upwards on the platter itself. The rubber band goes around the inside of the platter and onto the spindle motor. To replace, simply lift platter section of the unit, place the belt around the inside of the platter and replace the platter. Move the platter around till you see the motor and use some tweesers to pull the belt over the motor. Hope this helps
