If i Type Square root of 148, i get some wierd decimal, i dont want that. I want a radical like 3 radical 12 i think thats the answer, how do i get it to display that insted everytime for when i type

The square root of 148 is 2*sqrt(37), the square of 3*sqrt(12) is 108, but that's not the point. The TI-84 can't produce results like 2*sqrt(37). It can produce results as fractions but not involving roots. Some other machines, like the TI-89 can, but not the 84.Sorry if that wasn't the answer you were hoping for.

Garbage collecting

I had the same problem. Here's whutcha do: You know that USB cable that came with your calculator that hooks up to your computer? You're gonna need it. First, take out one battery from your calculator. Then hold down the DEL button. Whilst holding it down, re-insert the battery. Now turn the calculator on. Hooray! It doesn't say Garbage Collecting anymore! Now it says "Waiting... Please install operating system now." Now you hook up your calculator to your computer with that cable. Go into TI CONNECT (if you don't have it, download it at TI's official website), and transfer the newest OS (also available at TI website). Now your calculator is working again. Woohoo.

My ti84 plus won't turn

Hi ezheng1000,

A battery reset procedure should bring your Ti 84 Plus back to life.

Make sure the batteries are in correctly? The batteries alternate negative/positive, positive/ negative and so on. The first time I put the batteries in, I didn't have them in correctly. I know if it happen to me that anybody could make the same mistake. And of course, the calculator will never come on if the batteries aren't in correctly.

The process below should reset your calculator.

Please be prepared to re-install the calculator's OS if you run through this process.

1). Pressing the [2nd] key followed by pressing and releasing the [Up Arrow] key. This adjust the contrast in case the contrast was to low. Keep repeating if necessary for about 10 seconds and, then go to the next step. If calculator comes on and responds to key functions your done.

2). Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the [CLEAR] key. While holding [CLEAR],
reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on. The calculator should display the
message "RAM Cleared". Release the [CLEAR] key and then press it one more time to remove the message. If calculator starts responding to key functions your done.

3). Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the [DEL] key. While holding [DEL], reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on. The calculator should display
"Waiting...Please install calculator software now". Follow the instructions for the
TI-83 family or TI-84 Plus family to reinstall the calculator operating system.

4). Steps to re-installing the operating system:
~Connect the TI Connectivity cable between the PC and the calculator.
~Click on Start >> Programs >> TI Tools >> TI Connect >> TI OSDownloader
~Follow the on-screen directions to reinstall the calculator's OS.

5). Remove all of the batteries including the round lithium battery for 5 minutes. After the 5 minute period, reinsert all of the batteries and turn the calculator on. Adjust the contrast if necessary.

6). If the above process did not work. Try re-doing the procedure and, extend the time in step 4, by 5 minutes to 10 minutes before you put all the batteries back in the calculator. These calculators can be a little stubborn at times so, keep trying and follow the procedures.

I just placed new batteries in my calculator and

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible. Does it?

How to find domain and range of a function?

The calculator cannot determine that for you. But if you enter a value outside the domain it will display an error message Let there be a function y=f(x).The domain of the function is the set of values that x is allowed to take. For example, the domain of the f(x)=x^2 is the whole of the real line: any real value you might think of has a square. The range of a function is the set of all values that the function can take. For f(x)=x^2 the range is [0, infinity[

Why is my x-axis dashed and solid?

The only thing you can do to the axes (x and y) is to display them or not to display. When the axes are displayed they are solid (uninterrupted, continuous) lines. I am quite puzzled by what is happening here. Are you drawing inequalities? If so and one condition is y<0 or y>0 maybe the x-axis being the boundary line between the two half planes might appear dashed and solid. Do you have a picture?
