Either a dirty or a bad optical pickup in the DVD unit--one or the other.

Clearly a problem with the mechanism or something in it that is not allowing the door to open. It is possible the mechanism is jammed in some way --some object got inside that does not belong there or a mechanical part is broken or out of position.Someone would have to open the unit and examine it.

95% chance either a dirty optical pickup or a bad one in the unit.

You must check its power regualtor baord to get the fault. Sometimes, it may need replacement as card basis. Contact the nearest authorised center for pansonic.

If your mechanism is making noises it is time to replace the DVD player, not cost effective to repair.

try a DVD cleaning kit and follow instructions, if that won't work! clean lens with a Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol genly, and allow several minutes to dry, if no result it is cheaper to replace the player than replacing the laser pickup assembly.

Try resetting the unit. Push and hold the on/off button for 10+ seconds. --or-- Look for a reset button behind the drop down door, and gently depress it with a pen point for a couple of seconds. If this does not work, try calling Panasonic.

Try going through the menu, and locate update system, do that then when its finished cancel the auto look for updates.

Just reset the unit to factory settings and try

To reset the channel information and the
clock settings

On the main unit

Press and hold CH UP and CH DOWN buttons simoultaneously
for about 5 seconds

To reset the ratings level settings

With the unit stopped

OPEN/CLOSE
to open the disc tray.

On the main unit

REC & Play

Press and hold both buttons for
about 5 seconds

To restore the unit if it freezes

On the main unit

Press and hold "POWER" button for more than

10 seconds.
-The unit is off.
OR
On the main unit

Press and hold the reset **** which can be located down to the "play button" of the unit with any sharp instrument like tip of a ball point pen or so for more than one second
