On 250mm onwards the auto and manual focus do not

That is some heavy glass.. it sounds like there is a problem with the drive mechanism in the lens when the lens is extended. The droop from the weight of the glass prevents the mechanism to function as designed.

Since this is a precision optic, I would send it to Sigma or other reputable shop for a repair estimate. Attempting to disassemble this or contaminating interior parts would worry me too much for me to try it. Unless you know what you're looking for - I'd arrange for service by calling (1-800-896-6858) or contacting Sigma Customer Support, package it up and send it out for repair. You might still be under warranty, too.

Good luck!

My 150 - 500 lens will not extend or retract

I'd guess, from when this lens was introduced, that it is out of warranty? My web search did not turn up any reference to what you have described. Whether or not in warranty, I'd suggest starting by contacting sigmaphoto.com to see if they have any suggestions. FWIW, I have the (newer version) 50-500 OS USM on a 7D and am very impressed with it (first non-Canon lens I've bought).

Bigma 50/500

Hey Bob G,
I would try blowing compressed air into the lens to try and dislodge whatever is stuck in the lens barrel. If this doesn't work I would advise you to not take the lens apart. Camera lenses require precise mechanical alignment that can only be achieved with the right tools and the education necessary for achieving it. It would probably be easy to take it apart, but very hard to put it back together. You could try a shim, but you run the risk of damaging the lens further. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

Soft focus

I would say it is fixable. It could be a couple of different things. Loose optics and/or mount spacing could be the problem. Check here on Fixya to find a repair person in your area.

Af-s compatable nikon D-40

You should be able to use any Nikon AF-S or Sigma HSM lens on your D40. If you want to be 100% sure, email or call Sigma from www.sigmaphoto.com. They are generally very helpful with such issues.

It will only lock the lens in the 50mm position (for storage and carrying) or past 100mm (to keep the elements from making contact when using a tc).

Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 APO EX while on Autofocus mode the focus ring moves slightly when half-pressing. Is this normal? is there anyway to fix this?

It is not normal for the focus ring to move slightly when using autofocus mode on the Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 APO EX lens. This could be caused by a problem with the lens or with the camera body. One thing you can try is to check if the lens mount on the camera is clean and free from debris, as this can cause the lens to move when the camera's autofocus system is trying to adjust the focus. You should also check if your lens firmware is updated to the latest version and make sure your camera firmware is also up to date.

Hello All, I need instructions on how to dissasemble the Sigma 300-800mm f5.6 APO EX DG HSM lens to clean an inner element. Does anyone have a service manual/exploded views/parts diagram please?

You can't do this yourself. It needs to be carried out by professionals and is a 'clean room' with service techs in full dust proof protective wear. Send it to them. https://www.sigma-global.com/en/support/ ..

What adapter do I need for a Sigma AF 75-300 lens on a Canon Rebel XTi SLR?

Question edited for clarity. You get the Sigma lens for the camera in Canon fit. https://www.google.com/search?q=sigma+lens+af+75-300+for+canon+rebel+xti Can you use Sigma lenses on Canon cameras? Since Sigma lenses are made to be fully compatible with Canon cameras, they are backwards-compatible. This means that you can use a Sigma lens on a Canon DSLR camera. Similarly, the Sigma cameras are backwards-compatible with Canon lenses. Macro adapter loses the AF feature. https://www.google.com/search?q=sigma+lens+af+75-300+mount+adapter+ring+for+canon+rebel+xti

Where can I find out how to take apart a Sigma 150-600mm contemporary lens?

Taking it apart is not the problem - re-assembling it will be. Unless you have access to an optical laboratory, where laser instruments can measure the exact tolerances required, don't even think about it. You will be left with a pile of optical components, and a far higher repair bill than if you had just let the experts sort out the problem in the first place.
