When I turn my lens to zoom it gets stuck between 34 and 45

Send it back - sounds like it has been dropped on the front element. The 18 to 55 is junk anyway - While I recognize you have probably made nice photos with this piece of glass - it is plastic junk and I have destroyed four or five of them - a friend of mine owns a pawn shop and he keeps giving me these as they come in to clean up and lube - most of the time I just throw them away because they are made so poorly - but this is fine because they usually come bundled with bodies and they do work for a time...

Nikon D50 with Nikon DX 18-55 lens will not focus

Hi,
Sorry to hear about your lens. If you are able to autofocus and take pictures with any other lens, then it means that your problem lies with the kit lens. If you can take picture in manual mode, but not in autofocus mode, then the AF motor in the lens in not functioning. I had the same thing happen to my 50mm 1.4 lens.

Depending on your location, there are Nikon repair centers in Melville, NY and Torrance, CA.
Hope this helps,
Andrew

Lens won't focus with the camera. Switch is set to

Check to make sure the lens is also set to autofocus and not manual. There is also a switch on the body for automatic and manual depending on the camera, which is near the bottom of the body.

Memory card is locked. Where is the lock?

This is usually caused by the SD card, and is nothing to do with the camera. On the SD card there is a small slider - which allows you to lock the card (to prevent accidental erasure).

If you put in on the table with contacts upwards, corner cut top left, then the slider is on the right hand edge, about 1/3 the way down. If it is slid to the top position (nearest the contacts) the card is unlocked. If it is slid down (away from the contacts) the card is locked.

If it is a damaged / "cheap" card, sometimes the slider falls out, in which case the card is locked. You can still read from it, but not write to it until fixed or replaced.

First check is to turn the camera off, remove the card, move the slider to locked, then back to unlocked. Replace in the camera and turn on.

Hi. I have this same problem. Have you managed to fix it yet? I've been told that it would cost £100 to fix it, plus a charge of £20 to send it away.
