Scott,I would suggest checking the toner drum. You may be low on toner or if you recently replaced the toner, ensure that it is installed correctly.- Scott

The printer copies turn out
Hi,
it could be few things,
Its probably drum unit fault, probably the cleaner is worn out and doesnt clean drum surface enough.Remove the drum unit and see if there is "leftovers" on drum surface and if Yes change the drum unit.
If the copie isnt baked enough that means that the fixing roller is worn out and you need to change it.
If You are using replacment toner, not genuine from Canon, also it can cause problems like bacground, dots, spots,...
Hope that helps!

Do you have any files in the printer queue (the spooler)? Sometimes one file that had a printer can cause a lockup in the subsequent files you try to print. Try starting and stopping the spooler service.
In the command prompt (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt) type "net stop spooler" without the quotes and then hit enter. On the next line type "net start spooler" again without the quotes followed by enter. When the prompt returns, reboot your computer.
Try a new data cable before you decide it is the printer. Also try using the Windows Device manager troubleshooting feature. (Right click on the printer icon in Printers and Faxes (Start > Printers and Faxes) and look for troubleshooting. Also try making it the default printer if it isn't the default (in the same place).
I hope this helps.
