Stops in the middle of a movie.

Sometimes the ribbon wire attached to the laser pickup head developes a fine break in the line causing intermittent operation, so as the laser tracks it flex's the ribbon.

My unit is a DVP3140, purchased 2006 or 2007. As

By changing to Region 0 you've changed the Laser control and subsequently the Laser is failing earlier than it would have done under normal operation.

The only solution would be to replace the Laser which is not normally cost effective and often unavailable anyway.

CDs may still play for a period of time as these require less power as there isn't as much information to read as a DVD.

It's not reading the disc. If there is no disc in

Diagnosing the fauty parts on dvd player is quite technical but i will suggest a diy solution that may help you on your problem.
Try cleaning the Lens of your DVD(It might be covered by dust thats why it can't read any disc) by a soft cotton bud. Be careful while doing these and try if it will work.
If the problem is still there then i've advice you to send it to repair shop to replace the faulty parts.

Thanks for using fixya.

Hooked up to a mgnavox

Check to make sure the red and white plugs are in the same av3 area as the yellow video plugs. On some TVs it is close together with av1 or 2 and not well marked. Also check the connector at the CD end. Hope that's all it is. Let me know if I can help more if it's not the solution:)

Hello! My philips DVD player rejects

Hi,

Your description indicates a partial fault in the laser system. There would be two (2) separate laser systems in a single package; one for DVD and another for CD since the encoding system of each is different from the other. It would appear that the CD side is operating as expected whereas the DVD side have issues. Causes could be most likely a speck of dust on the DVD lens or in some instances caked/gummed lubricant that is not serving its purpose or any other hardware issue.

The only easy user doable action would be to clean the optics (laser/lens) with the use of a disc drive cleaner or with a can of compressed air (with nozzle tube) if haven't been tried. Unfortunately, other than that, all other corrective actions would require opening the unit including manual cleaning of the laser lens. Options then are:

1. Seek the services of an authorized service center (especially if the Philis DVDR3455H is still under warranty) or a qualified professional.

2. Consider a DIY (do-it-yourself) repair which requires familiarity with electronic components & circuitry, use of a DVM/VOM or even a soldering iron. It is necessary to access a Service Manual or at the very least a schematic diagram and repair checklist. First course of action would be to check availability of the lens assembly.

Let me know, if you want to Fix it. I could tell you where you could buy the Service Manual and Guide you to Fix that.

Note - Repair does not make any sense as new player would cost you in the same range.

Let me know, if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Not reading disk only plays USB ,model dvp3256

I recommend removing the cover, clean the glass laser eye with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab. This should fix the problem. If cleaning doesn't help, then the laser lens circuit is faulty and will need to be replaced.
