If the unit was used a lot there may be the possibility that the laser assembly is going bad...these are not too expensive and are relatively easily replaced..you will have to open the unit up to look at the laser assembly...there should be a sticker with a part number on it...find this number then go to mcmelectronics.com to see if you can obtain one and replace it...the laser rides on rails and is easily removed by taking 1 rail off and then the laser itself...if you do decide to change the laser..make sure you un-bridge the solder short on the new laser...this is done to prevent static from damaging the laser...it will either be on the ribbon cable or on the board on the laser...simply plug it in and remove the solder short...then try unit to see that it works

It has power but will
Did you try a lens cleaner? If the lens is dirty/damaged then the DVD will not play. Use a branded lens cleaner(Sony is recommended). Just pop it into the drive and play it. It runs like a normal DVD except that the brushes will pop out of the cleaner disc and wipe the lens. You can get one on ebay for about 10-15 bucks.

Does show anything on the screen
If nothing shows on the screen, U may have a bad screen or video card in the machine. There really is no solution except to get it repaired if it is in warranty or taking it to a shop for repair, or buying a new unit

It sounds like U have a bad lens. Try a lens cleaner. If it is the lens, it wont read anymore discs. Sometimes it will also make a clicking sound and show disc error/no disc cryptic messages on the screen.

"no disc" error message
Did this problem just start? It may be due to the lens no longer reading the disc. Try a lens cleaner. If your lens went south, it usually is paired with a clicking noise or/and the combination of a no disc/disc error message. I would also recommend staying away from Polaroid dvd players and tv's in the future. They have a habit of not making parts available, especially after the warranty.

Bad Disc
First determine where the problem lies. This can be done by analyzing what is happening. Is the disc spinning. Is it spinning erratically? If the disc is not spinning, the spin motor is probably defective. But sometimes you can be fooled, if the
laser does not detect information of the disc, it will not issue a start spin motor command. If you can get the unit to work with the door open by defeating the switches,(Do not under any circumstances look directly into the laser)If you see the laser then the spin motor is bad, In either case the unit is is probably cheaper to replace than to repair.
