On my G5 1.8 single processor PMac the sound is

make sure the power coder is pulled before you do any thing.
also borrow a pair of speakers that are known to work

yes there is a way to replace the sound cards.but i don't think they deteriorate.it sounds like three things can
be wrong. one your speakers.your speakers could be at fault .two your cd drive.try a a pair of speaker
that are know to work.with the original drive.

if you can and aren't afraid of opening up your case wich you got to do
to replace anything.borrow a compatible cd drive frome someone that knows that it works fine
also borrow a pair of speakers that are known to work and
take the cords that are hook up to your and cd drive and hook them up to the borrowed drive. you can let
it dangle there instead of putting it in the tower . turn on your computer and wait about 5 min and then try the
cd.if the sound is good problem solved..

the last problem could be that your sound card is bad or a driver is not installed

Hello,
A little checklist: - Have you checked that no headphones are plugged in? - have you checked that the sound is "ON"? - have you tried to reset the PRAM, holding the "cmd" "alt" "P" "R" keys at satrtup?
Hope this helps

PM G5 has red light at front before switching on

It could be your motherboard but I would first try a Apple hardware disk and run the diagnostic tests.  If you can't boot from the DVD you could try a PRAM reset.  I have seen other weird issues with the hard drive not mounting which causes the fans to run loud.  The Apple Diagnostic disk comes in your original software pack and its usually on the 2nd or 3 DVD.  Sometimes the CPU speeds get out of whack and they need to be recalbrated.

Mac powerbook G4, I Cannot Reset a New Password, c with disk or apple + s do not work

Do you know someone with a USB or Firewire external drive box. If you do, take you drive out of your computer, install it into the box. Your friend may be able to copy/move you data/information to CD/DVDs and then format your disk. There is nothing that can survive a format. After your drive is formatted, create a partition on it and copy your data/info to the partition. Your friend should make sure his antivirus/malware is up to date. He wouldn't want to catch what caught you.

Why "print and fax" icon disappearing from my mac "system preferences" window ? Right now instead of showing "system preferences icon!"(name didn't change! only the icon). So i can't add new printer,

Hello, it seems like your system has a corrupted preference file, or something has been deleted. For best results, I would recommend to do an update of your system. If this doesn't work, you can try to repair the systems permissions in Applications --> utilities --> disk utility, and hit "SOS" and select your drive then click on "repair permissions". Reboot the computer.
If this doesnt help, I would recommend to reinstall the system using the Leopard DVD

Blinking white lite won't really power up monitor says no signal and the fans start slowly then gradually increase. we had taken the side off to clean out the dust and dog hair and when we put it back

Clean your memory card. its edge connector with soft eraser both side. Do this after you power off the unit and unplug to wall socket. Take out the memory and do the cleaning.

August 2005, I purchased this powermac g5.

OK. The movie industry strikes again! Your RENTED DVDs are the key.Hollywood made some adjustments to prevent the copying of the movies. So they put software to detect the kind of drives in which the movies are inserted. DVD/RW are capable of copying a movie, so they are disqualified as playing devices. Have it be a normal DVD player you won't be facing any troubles.

Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5 sound output

This is just how it works. The headphone jack on Macs is dual-purpose. If you plug in a mini-Toslink cable (like you have) it automatically sends the sound through that & increases the computer's volume to maximum. When you unplug the Toslink, the laser will still shine for a brief moment (but then it does go off). So, there is no way to keep the Toslink plugged-in AND utilize the built-in audio at the same time.

Can not open desktop icons.

Go into your Utilities folder and open Disk Utility. Select your Macintosh HD in the pane on the left, then select "Repair Disk Permissions". Once the process has completed, try rebooting and see if it resolves your issue.

DVD reader

Hi I'm sorry you are having trouble,
OK, when was the last time your CD/DVD trey opened properly when instructed by pressing the eject button on your keyboard ?
This (and all other apple computers now) machine does not have a button other than the keyboard eject button to eject or open the trey. The eject button is usually the last key at the top right hand of the keyboard. If you are not using an Apple Keyboard, it does not always work. And, sometimes, that key no longer sends it's request to the Mac... SO,
Have you tried another keyboard ?
Is there a Disk in the reader? Sometimes the disk itself confuses the reader and paralyses it and restarting won't help it even freezes the system....
That is why there is another way to get the CD drive to open or eject a disk that won't come out:
Restart your mac or from an off position, turn on the Mac and VERY QUICKLY press the mouse button ( If you have a mighty mouse, be sure to click the left side of the mouse ) and hold that mouse button down until the disk ejects, depending on how much ram you have, it could take 10 seconds to 70 seconds, be patient...
If the Mac boots without ejecting the disk, then either your mouse or keyboard are not connected directly to the mac, this does not work well through a USB Hub, or the mouse or Keyboard are defective.
Keep trying it with other keyboards or mice until you get that drawer opened.

Resolution issue Acer V223w

Hi, I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble....
THis is a tricky one. My first step would be to connect another screen to your G5 and connect your V223w to another Mac... Are you able to do this, do you have access to another system, could even be a PC ( in the worst case )
Ideally, having 2 screens connected to your G5 would be the best situation.
THis way, with one working screen, you can attempt to modify the resolution and refresh rates on the V223w from the good screen, be sure to activate screen mirroring, otherwise you will not have access to the other window of monitors system preferences.
If you can get two monitors connected and mirroring is not an option, then either your monitor is KAPUT or the video card secondary port is KAPUT, try switching the port of the card your displays are connected to. I think they are both DVI ports. If the opposite screen is now working, then you know it's the port on the video card.
Hope this will get you through it.
