G5 Mac with a GeForce FX 5200

This is only a calibration issue. Your monitor is fine. and the card is fine. I would go to your displays preference and go to calabrate your monitor again. This time just choose the calabration from the default one. Ask someone else if they can see the box you just put on there. Sometimes it helps to have a second set of eyes.

My powermac g4 firewire ports

There is a place under your apple that says about this mac.
Click there.
THen on the bottom of that window it will say more about this mac, click there.
THen go to your contents window and look under hardware. There you will see a file named "firewire". Click on it. If you see information under the area Fire wire Bus than your fire wire bus is working and the problem is your cable from the computer to the Drive. If you do not see any information there or something that says, "Firewire bus not connected or unavailable than that part of your card is messed up on *********** board. If it is not the cable and your machine is under warranty, take it to an apple store and have them replace the board. (Back up your important data first!)
The simple solution with out having to have your machine repaired is to buy a PCI Fire wire card and install that. You should have a separate connection on the front of the mac that is different and check to see if this one is not working either with a new cable.

Screen Resolution

your problem here can be resolved by installing the combo osx update. You can get it from here.

It's 668MB so you'll need to be a bit patient but once you've installed it it will put you back on track.

All the best

Leopard won't install

Found this on the net:
http://www.brad-x.com/2007/10/27/howto-leopard-install-with-giga-designs-g4-upgrade/

Those upgrade cards always have given me a problem with migrating to Leopard. If you can upgrade to a used G5 or even Intel basd mac you might be more happier with less hassle.

Display

Check the connections. Sometimes that happens when you accidently pull a cable slightly out of the wall. It used to happen to the school computers all the time, so don't worry about it too much. Just make sure all the cables are as tight as they can go.

Apple Macintosh LC520, does not turn on.

Hi,  The LC520 must be an old friend. It was built in 1993. That did not have the safeguards that Macs have today, although I don't know if that created your problem with the drive. It might be that a component or a piece of wiring simply got old and does not perform properly anymore. Sort of like me . . . For what it's worth, that Mac used OS7, and that system is way obsolete now. There are no applications around that work with that system. You might think of laying it to rest, or better yet, recyclingit, and getting a new, shiny Mac that will make your heart sing once more.

PowerPC G4 switch-on problem

Hi Branko
Rather than forking money out for a battery. There are a couple of things I really need to know first. Have you changed anything on the machine recently? What OS are you running. How much memory (ram) Size of hard drive.

As you are running quite an old mac these details are important to identify the problem.

My Mac wont work. blinking Folder with "?"

When the "?" mark comes up, it means it's looking for the operating system to boot to. It can be fixed by opening system preferences and in the startup settings, select your operating system as the tarted startup. It should speed up boot up time.

Can you try installing the new burner as a slave and the zip as the master?

Had a pc once that refused to boot at all with a new DVD burner in it, alongside a DVD-ROM. The burner was replacing a CDRW drive, swapped the drives master and slave settings over and it worked.

RESET PASSWORD DIFFICULTIES

If you have the install disk, restart the Mac and hold down the C key after you hear the startup chime. This will start from the CD. Under the Installer menu, you will then have the option to reset the password for the admin account, which will enable you to reset any user password.

Unit wont boot/power up

Is this a G5 2.7, dual 2.5 with a multicore processor using a liquid cooling system? If so open the case and check to see if any liquid is actually leaking. See xlr8yourmac.com for a whole bunch of postings on the issue.

Try unplugging the entourage usb, turning it off, and also unplugging mac for five minutes and taking off mac battery at the same time.

Put everything together and see if the Entourage get recognised.

If not reinstall Entourage software.

Problem burning DVDs

This happened to me also. I fixed the problem by buying new DVD discs, sometimes the mac's rom doesnt like particular discs. Its a trial and error thing with which ones it will use. Make sure you are using the latest version of Roxio toast to burn with, also make sure your ROM is DVD-R.

If all this fails, it could be your writer in the rom. Try burning a CD, if that works it will be the above problems.

Try using discs with a GOLD BOTTOM, it seemed to work for me.

Applications

Good news and bad news . . .You will probably have to reinstall the OS - that is, unless you have backed up your files on Time Machine or some other back up program. Then all you have to do is ask the back up program to reinstall the missing files.
But if you haven't backed up, you will lose your Mail accounts and email, but not your photos, as far as I know. But at least you can rebuild your accounts.
You will find your iPhoto library in the Applications folder. You can find your photos If you have a .Mac (Mobile Me) account, however, you will find your .Mac mail online.
Here is more help for iPhoto: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1262302
