It sounds as if it could be a thermal issue.
Open the side and clean out the dust from inside the Mac.(Use a clean 1" paint brush)
Take the main processor fans out and clean the heat sinks for the processors.
If you are still having the same issue, then your only option is professional help.
Upgrade for a 2005 apple mac desktop tiger 10.4
The highest you can get up to is leopard 10.5. Unfortunately, after 10.5 Apple moved to Intel getting rid of the powermac processors.
Depending on your specs I would recommend sticking with tiger, but leopard should run fin on your powermac. It runs great on mine.

before going to the extreme of fault finding, just try this.
place face down on soft material, remove all screws placed for safety, latex gloves and with a hand held Hoover and fine soft clean dry paint brush get the insides and fans a good spring clean.

One, the app used to open the files is missing or not found.
Two, the extension was removed from the file.
Try holding the Option Key while dragging the file on top the application's icon. This will force it to open.

Unfortunately, the age of your Mac and the max OS you can run is seriously inhibiting your video watching, even with the baddest video card you can get with that model. You can try downsampling videos in YouTube by changing the resolution from 1080 or 780 to 480 or 360. You may want to seriously consider upgrading.

and, if this is a file vault protected user account, you are just plain stuck.
Assuming you want to save all your data
read all before proceeding.
Get a second Hard Drive, install an OS on it if there isn't already one.
Boot to that HD, Set up as "NEW" do not transfer any info. when you get to it, create a user account that is different and obvious from the old account you are trying to reclaim. Use something like "TEMP Account".
Copy your user account from the old HD to the new HD (into the Users folder) create a new user account, but use the same name as the old user folder is called. use a password you will remember and add a "hint" at the bottom. log out and log back into the user account that you just created.
