Apple eMac Desktop Questions & Answers
Where is the mac desktop power button
It is a flat screen computer, and unlike PCs that I am used to, there is no "tower" that goes with the monitor, which is where the power button is. My sister-in-law turned the flat monitor around and found the power button (which is also flat and not that easy to feel if the screen is facing you) in the lower left quadrant (almost to the edge).
I just got a used
I would try and find the OS X Tiger installation disks off of eBay, and install Tiger so that you can at least install Firefox, even if it's an older version. Your computer won't be able to run much, because of the limited RAM, and the fact that the processor is extremely slow.
Have apple eMac forgot user password can you help
You need to start up from the system cd for the eMac then use 'Password Utility' to change the password.
Alternatively, if you are transferring the files to another Mac, you can start up the eMac in 'Target Disk' mode by holding down the 'T' key during start-up until a Firewire symbol appears on the screen. The computer can then be connected to another Mac which will see the eMac as an external HD.
My Apple eMac G4 M9425LL/A Desktop does not fill up the desktop. How can I maximize the desktop
Hi Buchi
Do you mean you get a small desktop inside the screen surround by blank space or black?
If so then I think you are reaching the end of the eMac's life.
These machines have been very good overall. Some had the dreaded capacitor problem , but Apple fixed that on affected machines by replacing the motherboard.
I have of late though seen a few eMacs with display problems. I have one here now with a very pink display - as a computer it works fine, but the display (or display electronics) is giving up.
Unfortunately it is probably not cost-effective to try to repair these machines.
One thing you can do though is connect up an external monitor.
See if you can borrow one and plug it into the video out port (the socket right at the end of the line of connectors on the side of the eMac) You'll need a suitable adaptor though.
`If that display is fine then the problem is with the tube itself, but if the problem is still there, then then the issue is probably the video board - again not worth repairing.
let us know what happens.
Maximie desktop to full screen
right click on the blank screen, click properties, then settings and increase the resolution and color. If that doesn't work you might be using an lcd screen with the wrong settings. I don't know what that might be but you might call up support, for your brand, and tell them your problems. (you could also google manufacturer name then goto their site and email their support)
Reset password admin
I could suggest you search for this under "Apple password reset" since I've written the solution several times in the last month, but for you, I'll do it again:You need to find Disk 1 of the operating system install disk set. The install disk set doesn't need to be the one that came with the computer, so long as it is OS 10.2 to OS 10.5 (PPC). However, some install disks are not compatible with the resolution setting of the graphics chip in some eMacs, so you may have difficulty reading the display. The reset procedure is as follows: Turn on the eMac, open the optical (CD or DVD) drive and place Disk 1 in it, then close the drive. Restart the eMac. As soon as the startup chime sounds, immediately hold down the option key and continue to hold it until a disk icon appears on the screen. Wait until the optical disk icon also shows up. Click on the optical disk icon, then click the arrow button. This will boot up the computer to the install disk. When the computer boots up to the install program, DO NOT DO ANYTHING IN THE INSTALL PROGRAM. Look in the Apple menu for the Reset password... item. You should see a selector menu for the account(s) on the computer. Select the administrator account and enter the new password (it can be left blank if you know nobody else will ever mess with your computer). Confirm the password, then quit and restart without holding down any keys. The computer should restart normally and you can log in to the administrator account with the new password. So long as you remember the new password, you can change it at any time using the "Accounts" pane in System Preferences.
When putting files from my mac to a PC there corrupted
Hi Leroy, This is an odd one. Logic says trhat it must the sign company's computer at fault if the file opens up OK elsewhere. But then - if they are a professional sign company, they should have software capable of opening any image file format del;ivered to them. What filwe format are you using?
Emac model number A1002
It could be a hard drive problem or it could just be a software issue. Given the model, it could be running System 9 or X or both. If it is 9 it just may need to be blessed. The disc you are trying to load sounds model specific as opposed to Apple's retail discs which will load on any of their models capable of running that particular operating system. Whether it is worth fixing is really a judgement call, if you have use of a 2nd machine a hard drive / install disc can be had for cheap enough, as far as resell value, I would say no. Due to the limited information you have on the history of the machine I would suggest following these links to try and determine if it is indeed hardware or software:

Go to system preferences and then to desktop and screen saver and from here you can select the picture and then at the bottom of the left hand column you click on the minus sign and this will remove the picture. Hope this helps.

Ckick on the padlock to unlock the panel. Now click on the name ":Other" and just above the padlock click on the Minus sign. You will be asked what you want to do with the account details. Select remove immediately. After that try another restart and see what happens.
Dvd de instalacion del sistema operativo
Try washing the installation DVD with soap and water. Rinse, then dry with facial tissue paper. If it is scratched, gently scrape the scratch with the edge of a fingernail to remove any burrs. If that doesn't work check eBay - there are usually eMac operating system disk sets for sale there. (Apple probably does not have any replacements available anymore.)

Black emac screen
Hi, this could be a number of things but the most likely cause is probably the leaking capaitor syndrome. At about the time these machines were made there was a flood of faulty capacitors throughout the electronics world and the factpriews that made the mother boards for the eMac were particularly badly hit.Did the screen exhibit any flashing or streaking or random freezing before the failure? Thses are typical precursors.Unfortunately the only thing you can do is to take it to a (Apple) repair centre where they will be able to judge if it is repairable or not.The leaking capacitors quite often ruined the mother-board. If theyu were caught in time they were repairable but .......If the eMac is still running, connect it to an external monitor and then clone your HD to a blank HD using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper.

How can i reset an apple emac 1955 back to factory
Find the original gray optical disks that came with the machine. (Sorry, I know this step will lose 90% of owners already, but you're supposed to keep those.) Failing that, find the installation DVD for the version of Mac OS X you upgraded it to most recently (but you'll lose the software "extras" that may have come with the machine).
Boot from the DVD by holding down the C key at boot. Run through the initial installer screens until getting to the one where you choose whether you want to upgrade (which will probably be grayed out), archive and install, or erase and install. Choose erase and install. Then just let the installer fly. When it is done, you will have clean factory software on the machine.

Your best bet is to reset the System Management Controller;
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
...and then reset the Parameter RAM:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
If it persists after that, try Safe Mode:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455
...if that persists, try booting to your install DVD and running Disk Utility:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1417
..also note in this article that if for some reason you are unable to boot into your Install DVD the instructions for using fsck will do the same thing.
If that fails to resolve the issue, you'll want to reinstall the system:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1710.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it will likely need repair at an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Store.
