There are three LEDs on the projector. Does it shows any blinkings during this fault occurs?. Keep a keen look at it. Just unplug the unit from AC wall socket, wait for 10 minutes or so and then replug it. Just note what LED blinks and how many times. Just inform me abouth this by FixYa comment box. OK.

What you will want to do is hook up your video cable to the Optoma projector (yellow cable) and plug your audio cables directly into your surround sound receiver (red and white cables). I hope this helps.

Yes, it might be, but - because of the age - it's much more likely that the ballast board (the inverter that powers the bulb) has failed. The ballast can be either refurbished (it usually involves the replacement of the dried/blown capacitors) or replaced as a whole.
In the first case a repairman will ask you about $125 if you take the projector to its shop, more if you call it at home.
Replacing the ballast board will be difficult - due to its age finding a replacement board will be tough, you will probably have to go to a dealer and that will be very expensive, over $250. But you can have the board professionally rebuild to as new status by a company like
