The problem can be bad power supply feeding the backlight inverter circuits due to bad caps, or in the inverter circuits, or worst case will be bad lamps, you need to open it up and tell us what you see inside first, good pictures will help, see example of failed VIEWSONIC due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Use what works and stop updating unless you absolutely have to. That procedure most of the time creates more issues than you can imagine and often renders a machine useless! If not broken, leave it alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fading colour

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors - Flickering screen - Screen image disappears after several seconds - Dim screen - Slow start - Power LED on, but no picture - Unusual colors and/or lines The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad. If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced. New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years. Take it to a repair shop.

Va1703 wb blinking problem

Hello,That is a sure indication of a failure in the power supply board. The problem is that Viewsonic used two different power supply boards in the va1703wb model. If you want to do the repair yourself you should be able to. If you can open the unit and send a picture of the power supply board to us at [email protected] we would be glad to show you what parts need to be replaced to rebuild the board and get it back up and running.

Not getting the desired resolution

The native resolution for this monitor is 1440 x 900 @60Hz. What OS are you running? If the resolution is not shown on the list, then you will need the driver for this monitor if the OS does not recognize this monitor.

I have TWO ViewSonic VA1703wb

This model came out in 2007, so more likely to have bad caps problem just like the rest of failed VIEWSONIC as shown in my albums here due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/

ALL monitors have the same problem 90% most are due to poor quality caps.

1440*900 resolution is not coming

Your going to love this. Open control panel, open display. Click the settings tab. Click Advanced. Click the Monitor tab. Remove the check mark from "hide modes". Click the drop down menu & set it to 75 hertz. Click Apply & than ok. You are now back to the Settings window. At Screen resolution move the slide bar to more. Pick what you want. Again click Apply & than ok. Bingo there you are! Have a nice day.

Monitor was alternating dim/bright, after a couple

Ok, you need to check the DC voltages on those four caps with the monitor in the OFF mode, do not turn on the monitor so the power supply will be running without the load (the power supply is running the minute the monitor is plugged into the outlet), you can use 12v car bulb such as 1157 as a load, the output voltage in the inverter should be around 12vdc with load, if it checked out OK, then the next step will be the inverter circuits, you will need to the test lamp to find out if the inverter is OK or if you have the bad lamps. The diode you replace is more likely to be SCHOTTKY DIODE for high speed switching power supply, regular diode will not work.
