How to factory reset

The way to restore Gateways is to hold down the ALT Key and repeatedly hitting f10 then it should bring you to a boot sequence screen then choose the HDD and then hold down ALT and repeatedly hit f10 again that should promt the restore feature for gateway. If that doesnt work the only way to do it is to boot into windows and run the eRecovery program.

My wife's gateway NV52 urns on but lap top display is blank. If I hookup an external monitor both monitors work. If I unplug the external monitor the laptop display will stay on for several hours but

Looks like an overheating problem.....to fix this you will need to take it apart and reflow the graphic card with heat so as to be able to resit the graphic card on the board. Overheating occurs when there is not enough air going through the air vent of the laptop. Can be clogged if place on a couch or sofa's. Need to be placed on a plain hard surface and also you could get a cooling pad to place the laptop on to avoid such issues. The two videos below should give you an idea of how to reflow the graphic card of any laptop (can use a hair dryer with a bigger watt ). Let me know what happens next. Good luck

Gateway 450rog Audio problem

I have just re-imaged a Gateway 450 ROG for a friend of mine on the website the audio driver is found (http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?st=pn&param=3501353) under the heading Sound Downloads. This unzips a list of files C:\cabs\9520522
Readme.txt
stac97(security catalog)
stac97(control panel extension)
stac97 (setup information)
stac97(system file)
1. From the Start menu, click Control Panel.
2. In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance.
3. In Performance and Maintenance, click the System icon.
4. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
5. In Device Manager, click the plus sign (+) next to Other Devices, and then double-click Multimedia Audio Controller.
6. In the Multimedia Audio Controller Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.
7. In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click Next.
8. In the next dialog box, click Search for the best driver in these locations, and then click Include this location in the search.
9. In the text box, type: C:\CABS\9520522. Click Next.
10. Click Finish.
Now once installed sound only comes from using the headphone jack, the external speakers get a little sound if the volume is turned up to maximum.

Hope this helps

Do you need a disc to restore a 450rog

Click "Start" on your Windows desktop. Navigate through "All Programs" and "Gateway." Click on "Gateway Recovery Management."

Click "Restore" when the Gateway Recovery Management window pops up, which will take the system back to the default factory specifications. A box will pop up asking for confirmation, click "Yes" and then "Start." You may have to enter a password as well, but only if your particular Gateway had a password set.

Wait for the computer to restart. A "Restore from factory default" box will appear, requiring you to click "Next" twice in a row. Click "OK" in the box that appears next, and wait for the hard drive partition to be created. The factory default installation will then be moved over to the hard drive.

Click "OK" in the box that appears and wait for a second Gateway restart. Several minutes will pass as Windows "starts for the first time." When restarting finally finishes, a "Set Up Windows" dialog box will appear. Click "Next," followed by checking the license agreement box, and then "Next" again.

Enter a user name and picture, if desired, and a computer name. Also, customize the background wallpaper for your desktop, optionally. Click "Next."

Click "Use Recommended Settings" on the Protect Windows-based dialog box that pops up.

Set your correct date and time settings in the next box. Select your location in the following screen. Click "Next," followed by "Start" to finish.

Wait while Windows checks for your individual Gateway computer specifications and adjusts accordingly. This will likely take several minutes, so leaving your computer for a short time is fine. Windows will then prepare your hardware and finish your Gateway restoration process, including the installation of Gateway Recovery Management. Once completed, your Gateway is good to go and ready at factory settings.hope this helps

My gateway 450rog computer screen wont come on after i press the power button why

Make sure the machine has power.

The battery might be dead, so connect your notebook to the AC power adapter and plug the adapter into a working AC outlet.

If you have a power strip or surge protector, make sure it is on.

If you are having trouble with battery power, recharge it if it has been fully discharged or replace it if necessary.

Check to make sure the computer is not in "sleep" or "hibernate" mode.

Press a key or the touchpad and wait for it to respond.

Try pressing the power button.

Make sure that you fully engage the power button.

You should press and hold the button for at least half a second but no more than three seconds for the machine to power on.

Adjust the screen's display brightness because it may be too dark. Press and hold the "FN" key and press the key with the icon to increase brightness.

This icon looks like an "up" arrow and a picture of the sun.

hope this helps

I have the 450rog and it got dropped onto the floor and the screen like died

Diagnose. Check for loose connections first.Harddrive, Ram Memory. Make sure they are plugged in tightly.Make sure the Battery is plugged in tight, (AC adapter { Charger} NOT connected)If it is the version with dual battery's, make sure you check them both.Past this point it may be a cracked circuit trace on the motherboard, caused by a broken motherboard. (Circuit Trace. Also known as Signal Trace. Think, very flat thin copper wires that go all over the motherboard) [Laptop turned over, Battery facing AWAY from you;The Memory Bay Compartment is to the far right/middle.One Philips head screw to loosen, then the compartment door can be raised up on the screw side, and compartment door lifted out.Note the small tabs on the compartment door, and opposite of the screw side.REMEMBER, Remove the ram memory module { 'Stick' } at a 30 degree angle. When you spread the spring locks on each side, of a ram memory module, and it pops up; THAT is the same angle to remove it. Bring it straight up when removing, and you will DAMAGE the gold plated contact pins on the bottom of the Ram Memory module, and the contact pins in the bottom of the ram memory slot.Handle the Ram Memory module by the BODY. The Body is everywhere on the Ram Memory module, except the gold plated contact pins on the bottom. The Body is coated with a see-through protective plastic.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:1GB_DDR2_SO-DIMM.pngRefrain from touching the gold plated contact pins. You HAVE to remove ALL ram memory modules, and reinstall them. This is the only true method to use, to ensure they are seated tightly, and correctly.Wireless Module Compartment is to the immediate left of the Memory Bay Compartment. Below it is the Harddrive Bay Compartment. One Philips head screw is removed, and the Harddrive slides out in it's Harddrive caddy. (Slides out of the side of the laptop)Do so, then carefully slide it back in. Reinstall the screw. There are options, and one is a second harddrive. If your model has this option make sure it is plugged in tight also,http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/Gateway/450ROG/3501353sp66.shtml ]Then,The external VGA monitor you connected to the laptop;Laptop OFF, monitor OFF, connect it again. Hold the Fn key down, and at the same time tap once on the F3 key.(F3 key is the Display Toggle-Over key)No display on external VGA monitor? Hold the Fn key down again, and tap once more on the F3 key.Still bad? Problem is internal. Use an ESD wrist strap, and have it's alligator clip attached to a good ground source. (Electro Static Discharge)One example of an ESD wrist strap,http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103245Information,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESD_wrist_strapMake sure the Intel Pentium M processor is seated tightly in it's Socket 479 processor socket,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_479Note that the single slot type screw is the locking mechanism.Turn 180 degrees to unlock, make sure the Processor is seated, then turn the screw back 180 degrees to re-lock the Processor in the processor socket.Make sure the Thermal Cooling Module is seated tightly afterwards,http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&hash=item27c81332c5&item=170860425925&nma=true&pt=US_CPU_Fans_Heatsinks&rt=nc&si=3aRaG4yZHczJd6Q3wXW2IIvaBys%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=ncSince you removed the Thermal Cooling Assembly to see if the Processor was in tightly, the Thermal Paste needs to be replaced. If a Thermal Pad, peel it off, PROPERLY clean the top of the Processor, and metal plate that sits on it, then Properly apply fresh, new Thermal Paste.
