Safety switch is not opening. When you leave lid up you are negating the safety switch which is activated by the door. Easy fix.

Hi, I'd like to help diagnose your problem but I may need a bit more information. Based on what you stated, I assume you have a top loading WHR washer with an electromechanical timer... the kind that you turn and it clicks. Anyway, you stated that the washer stopped in the middle of the cycle and that simply opening and closing the lid would fix it for a while. I suspect that your lid safety switch may be cracked and isn't being actuated by the plunger on the lid. If this is the case, the washer would function properly until it reached the point in the cycle where it should spin. Then it would stop at that point in the cycle. This makes sense that opening and closing the lid might "fix" it for a while. Also, if the switch got bad enough that opening / closing the lid didn't work anymore, you could rotate the timer dial just past the spin area and the cycle would continue. Have you noticed the clothes are wetter at the end of the cycle?

Anyway, check the lid switch first and then repost if you rule it out.

You need to replace your agitator dogs. part number 80040. You have to pop the cap off the agitator. Then theres another cover that you pull out. This will give you access to the bold holding the agitator in place. The agitator needs to be removed and separated to replace these. If you search the how-to's/tips and tricks section of this website you will probably find a detailed step-by-step. Hope this helps.

If you hear motor running, then probably bad coupler. Lately I have been seeing more and more bad transmissions in these.

Hi, sorry to hear you replaced timer on machine, but it is most likely the motor.

Broken drive coupling, bad clutch, striped drive block, timer skipping past paus in nutral drain.
lots of things can cause problem

unplug washer and lean washer back aganst wall,put something under frount of washer.So you can see under washer .Look and see if the belt are still on the pully or if there streached out (not tight) fix accordingly.

My father had the same problem with same model about a year ago and it was the switch. If the machine continues to run up to the point of the spin cycle obviously the motor works and so he fixed the switch/timer that changes the cycle. In expensive but use a manual to guide you in reaching the switch and you will be able to manually turn the switch by hand observing that the spin cycle once reached times out or short circuits.

Replace the coupler. It is located between the motor and the transmission. I think it retails at about $8.00.

It won't be easy - the necklace went through the hole so logically it should come back, unfortunately it is the nature of a necklace to be a random structure unless some tension is applied; the links or whatever are apt to go sideways and jam in the hole. In an extreme case the necklace could be knotted... If it is knotted there is no chance of removal and the solution is either to dismantle the washer or to break the necklace. Positioning the drum so the necklace is under tension under its own weight and with some jiggling and the application of lots of patience and some luck it should come back through the hole.
