have you unplugged the unit for 5 minutes to try and reboot the electronic control board yet ? If not unplug or turn the circuit breaker off for 5 minutes or more then give it power and see if it fixes it or it does the same thing. Best to you.

This is the 'PQ4', if is is that one parts are readily available. The image shows a front loader, but it is a top loader in the schematic. It really depends where the rusty dirt has come from. So yes it can be fixed, but whether economically on a 17 year old machine, that's another story.
