You are using a program set to 4.5 GB or your device is set to 4.5 GB or you are using an unappropriate disc .

make sure that the dvd burner is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the dvd burner including electical extensions or just replace them there probably bad/faulty

To open this drive you can open My Computer and right click your DVD drive and select eject. You can also open any CD/DVD drive by taking a paper clip (or something the size of one) and inserting it inside the tiny pinhole near the eject button on the drive.

Did you try using Nero or Roxio? Don't only rely on the standard Windows support for CD/DVD writing.
Did you connect the new hdd the same way as the old hdd, or did you add it to the same cable as the CD/DVD writer perhaps? If multiple IDE devices are on the same cable, the master slave setting can cause problems. If you are using SATA devices, that should not be a problem.

Drivers are not required for IDE devices, including most CD/DVD writers, so don't bother with that.

You miss-understood. AnyDvd copies directly from the DVD drive to the hard disk, and removes region info as it does. Then a backup DVD can be created from the image file. The image file can also be accessed by DVDShrink to alter the size to fit.

Try AnyDVD to convert the files.

lol a blank DVD cant be opened directly in Win xp, you need to use a DVD burning tool... for your laptop did you check you the DVD-ram reads cd's also?

It sounds like you don't have the proper driver installed for that device. Without the appropriate driver your software will not be able communicate with the device properly.

Disconnect completely your driver and do the connection again from stratch! May work ! REG clean and Verify Disc before reinstalling! Good luck!

Full 'make model (what it is)' in all questions please, first 3 words. Capacitors can split or bulge, resistors can burn,, the transformer can fail internally.. Take it for repair unless you have the thousands of dollars of test equipment and have do the 2 year electronic course.
