Black screen

It sounds like your “Suspend Switch” is acting up. The Inspiron 1501 uses a mechanical switch to detect if the lid of the system is open or closed. A camber is built into the hinge of the system that activates the suspend switch plunger as the LCD is lowered to the closed position. If the switch is broken or nonfunctional, then it can be replaced separately. It is located under the hinge cover next to the right hinge on the system.

Applications stop working.

There are about a 150 million reasons NOT to work.

About the only thing you might try is to remove the memory cards, clean the contacts with alcohol and swabs, let it dry and reinstall it.

You could also have a bad memory chip. This is not uncommon with the amount of memory we now use.
Been there, done that.

Aahhh

Make sure you have the correct folder. There is also a light version of filesharing program Kazaa that's called K-Lite.
Which version of K-lite codec pack have you installed?
You need K-lite codec pack 3.8.5 FULL. Click here to download it.
The easiest way is to first remove the installation you have. During installation there are several pages where you can select or deselect codecs. I'm not sure if media player classic is listed there, but if it is, make sure it is selected. Else just finish installation. My installation folder was: "C:\Program Files\K-lite Codec Pack".
I'm pretty sure that there should be a folder "Media Player Classic" now.
If not, use this link to install Media Player Classic manually.
Using this player you should be able to open your DVD.

Good luck and please tell me if you got it working.

Issues!!help please

If you open the DVD from "Media Player Classic", i think it should work.
Go to the installation folder of K-Lite Codec Pack (Probably C:\Program Files if you didn't change it)
The open de folder "Media Player Classic" and execute "mplayerc.exe".

Make sure the DVD is in the DVD-drive and go to File -> Open DVD

If this does not work, I think you have a very special DVD, or the DVD is damaged...

Please post some feedback

Question regarding ur answer to my original problem...

Well, sorry if this reply wasn't as fast, it has an older email account attached to it (I will update that)

Look, I believe I said before that you would need to press F11 for Dell when it's booting (ino, before it has the Windows screen flash on)
This should tell you that you have a Dell as you are booting in, but more importantly, that will show you the BIOS, which is the computers system for how to start up the computer (as opposed to Windows) which should be installed by Dell in their computers before Windows is Installed.
Basically the factory programming.
Now, as far s 'flashing the BIOS'
I't means that you will install the Factory Software for your computer that handles things like how your compute will boot...
Like CD first, then Hard Drive, etc.
Things that mostly you don't have to worry about unless your compute itself, as opposed to Windows is the root of the problem, or 'needs' an update.
Now, to be fair, it is the DELL programming designed specifically to help DELL hardware run.... But....
There is always an inherent risk when flashing the BIOS that it could, theoretically, do more harm than good.

That said:
Here are a couple of general links as I don't remember all of the details of your needs, but this would be links regarding DELL and what the BIOS 'is'

DELL OpenManager/BIOS Explained

Creating a bootable BIOS CD for DELL

DELL BIOS Update Links

If this doesn't answer your question, please write back and I will give it more attention, just very busy tonight

Sincerely,
TM

Screen saver no longer works

Well, you have two options to look at:

1st one:
Since your laptop is Dell, I presume that you use Dell Media Software.
Other people had the same problem too. Try disabling this program to check if your screensaver is working.
Other programs that might conflict with the screensaver might be:
1. Ehtray.exe.
2. DVDLauncher.exe
3. Power DVD
4. PCM service.

Otherwise there is a known bug:

Try updating (flashing) the BIOS with an updated version. This seems to be a problem Dell was aware of an made available a "fix."

I want to know about some adventures video games?

Check out Big Fish Games. It is a subscription service but they have all types of games including adventure and hidden object. You can also tryp Pogo since they have both a fee and subscription service. Last, but not least, you can try one of your local computer stores or the electronics section of "big box" stores like Target, Walmart, Kmart, etc.
