Sorry, another problem

You need the correct codecs to play DVD's. The codec needed can be different for different DVD's. Just install K-lite codec pack. That should work fine.

I turn on my HP

Download either a Hiren's Boot CD (version 15.2), or a free version of Parted Magic (either or both on a CD instead of a flash drive ... because flash drives can EASILY be infected by malware and viruses! Set your BIOS so that the machine will not try to boot to the hard drive, but only to the CD. Then access your files via the OS on the CD, and copy whatever you need to copy off to another location.

Hello, I have a Dell Inspiron 1501. It has shut

Don't think as a battery error, if you can use without the battery ,pls check with ac adapter without battery.because there may be a short circuit with charging unit or power side, you have to test before blow up the unit. if blow up chip or mos fet, it will be hard to repair.

How do i fix the bottom half of my laptop screen which is all black

Hi, It is unfortunate that the bottom half of the laptop screen is black. You may try performing an LCD BIST using the below link: http://dell.to/1irqbYp Also try connecting an external known good monitor and check if that helps. Thanks and Regards. Kiran Kumar. #iworkfordell.

How do I unlock a keyboard on my Dell inspiron 5737-

You locked the access within the OS. You did state that it is a new computer in which case you can contact Dell technical support and work with them. A number for them is 866-516-3115 Make sure to have your Service Tag handy when you call them. You will find the service tag on the bottom of the Notebook on a (most likely) a black sticker with white writing that says Dell and it will list your service tag and your express service code. Some one is at that phone # 24x7x365

My dell inspironb120 powers up screen flickers on then black but when i attach to external monitor monitor works but laptop screen stays black when ichecked programs file it tells me i am missing dri

If it flickers on as in you see an image, it's not the inverter. If your image is there but you can only see it if you hold it up to a strong light, then it is an inverter issue. Your internal video driver may be missing or corrupt. If you have driver issues, plug in the external monitor and go right to the Dell website, click Support, and have the system locate your service tag number. The service tag may also be on the bottom of your laptop unless the sticker fell off. You will need this to get the correct drivers. Once you get a list of drivers, look for the video driver. Blank screen on a Dell Inspiron 1501

Here's how to work around the problem with the screen going blank when the A/C power adapter is attached.

With the battery only connected increase the screen brigtness using the blue Fn (function) key and the up arrow until you start to see the screen flickering. Now use the function key and the down arrow to decrease the screen brightness until the flickering stops. Plug in your A/C adapter and if the screen brigness increases, quickly bring it back down to the level where the screen does not flicker. It should continue run at this reduced brightness level.

You can then go into the the BIOS setup during the boot up sequence by pressing F2 and set this reduced brightness level so that any time you connect the A/C the brightness will automatically be set to the lower setting that avoids the problem.

Fn birghtness key not working

If the "fn" key works with other "fn" command buttons it may be the drivers. Your machine came with a CD of drivers. I would visit Dell's Support website, plug in your "Service Tag" number (found on a label on your machine) and download the latest if your CD is missing. Re-install these drivers. Look into the "Dell Quickset Utility."

Dell Inspiron 1501 screen half black

Had the same problem. Fixed it though. Here's how:
You'll notice that the screen comes back to life if you press down on the very top of the green line. This is because a controller circuit board behind the LCD screen (at the top) is pressure fit flat-surface-to-flat surface to the contacts on the back of the LCD. Eventually, the sticky substance that holds this circuit board in place wears thin, collects dust, etc.. and the connection between the circuit board and the lcd contact is lost. The line appears where this break in contact has occured.
So, the solution is to increase the pressure at that point to reestablish the connection. I wasn't able to remove the circuit board to clean beneath it as it seemed too likely to cause damage. Nor would I have had the right adhesive to connect it back, so I simply removed the LCD and put a bunch of tape at that point so that it would "push" with a little more pressure when screwed back into place. Worked great.
To remove the LCD, pull off the 6 feet around the screen. Remove the screws behind them. Carefully pry off bezel with a small flathead screwdriver working your way around it. Once removed there are simply 4 screws on the left and 4 more on the right of the LCD to remove. Pull out screen carefully and start stacking bits of tape on the spot where pressure seems to work best. Put it back in and see if you've made any difference. I did this with the computer on so I could verify my results. Just be careful not to short out any naked contacts.
If this doesn't work for you, at least you'll know you just need to replace the LCD, not the video card. Easily found on ebay.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 and one day my screen

Hi...
Start your computer in the Safe Mode.
To start in Safe Mode
Turn your computer on
Keep tapping F8 while the computer is starting up
When the computer starts select Safe Mode
1. Uninstall any softwear you may have put on the computer before the problem started.
2. Do a complete System Restore: Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.
This will bring your system back to a time before you installed the softwear or Microsoft installed drivers, etc.
Note: Just be sure to use a date in a darkened box before your trouble start date.
If after you have done the above and your still getting the blue screen of death, the installed drivers, softwear, etc might have corrupted the Operating System.
If that happened then that means either repair or reinstall the operating system.
You will need to do the following:
1...Repairing the Operating System...
A...You will have to have the Operating Dics that came with the computer.
Note...If you do not have the disks that came with your computer or the ones you should have made when you first got your computer...then you will have to go to the manufacture's webpage and see if they have a recovery disk available for your computer, if they do not a recovery disks available then you can also try ebay to locate the recovery disks.
The original disks will have your product key number that came with the computer, you can also find it on the tower, or under the bottom of your laptop, or maybe the piece of paper that the CD orginally came in may have the number on it.
You can also download a small program and it will tell you your product key number.
Go to the following webpage to download your FREE key finder.
http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/
B...You will now insert the disc into the CD/DVD player
C...Restart the computer
D...When the window opens that tells you to press "Any" key, you will press any key you want to press.
E...If you do not receive a message that says "press any key to boot from CD", then then the computer is not ready to boot from a cd.
To correct this problem you will have to go into your computer's Bios and change the computer to boot from a CD.
To get into the Bios, shut the computer off, restart, while the computer is starting up keep tapping F1 as the computer is starting up.
When you are in the Bios, select to boot by CD by moving the cursor with the direction arrows on the keyboard.
Once you have selected to boot by cd the exit and restart the computer...the disc is already in the cd/dvd player.
Your system will boot then from the cd.
F...After a minute or less it should ask you if you want to Quit Repair, or Continue.
You will select Repair this time, but you may have to come back here and select Install if the repair does not work.
You will have to install the complete Operating System.
It will ok the agreement document if it asks you too.
Tap F8 on your keyboard to pass it when ready.
It will ask you if you want to Install, Repair, Delete Partition, or Quit.
Select Repair
Inside the box there will be one or two partitions.
Choose the largest partition.
After you have chosen the largest partition, you will then press the "r" key to start the repair
After the repair is complete then you will need to restart your computer.
G...Computer Restart
After the repair is complete, shut the computer down (the computer will shut down a few times during the installation of the operating system
that is normal).
Then restart your computer, when the computer restarts it will have a box to put your product key...put the product key in the box.
The computer should start up and run as if it was a new computer.
You do not need to re-register
You can now remove the disc.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If this fails to clear your black screen then you have a hardware problem.
It could be faulty ram
If you still get the BS (Blue Screen), then you have two choices.
1.Reinstall the entire Operating System and you may have to update some drivers.
This will require you to go back to the start of the repair info.
2..Take your machine in to have the hardware tested.
Keep in mind that if you do a complete reinstall of the Operating System you will lose all the information on the computer, such as pictures, programs, videos, everything you installed will be gone.
Please take time to rate me four thumbs up

Is the blank screen on

Yes it can be repaired, but the cost will likely be very high to replace the screen assembly if that is the problem, most repair facilities charge $75-$100 just to look at the problem. If it is an older machine I would consider replacing it.

Hello. I have a Dell

You turned on your laptop and horrors upon horrors, the screen is BLACK! You see that the laptop has power but besides that nothing is happening. I want you to know that there is a very good chance you can get out of this situation quickly and without any cost. This fix works on all brands of laptops:

1.
? 1) TAKE OUT YOUR LAPTOP BATTERY
? 2) REMOVE YOUR AC ADAPTOR CORD, that's the wall power, remove it.
? 3) NOW HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON FOR 30 SECONDS

2. That will drain any static electricity that has built up on your laptop system board and many times fixes the problem of a black screen. After the 30 seconds re-connect your laptop to the wall power and hit the power button normally and see if the laptop comes back up.

Replace your battery.

3. Did this help you? If so Mo Bradley has one more quick tip to save your pocket.

I would like you to save on the high cost of replacement printer ink and I implore you not to buy Original Brand replacement ink. This is the rip off of the century and the Original Brand companies are not even ashamed. Try this website http://www.usainktank.com/ for ink which is mostly under $4.00 each (even HP ink) or if they don't have your printer model try some of the other suppliers of off brand printer ink. In the past I have used http://www.4inks.com/ and http://www.123inks.com/. They all have good quality off brand cartridges that will save you so much money.

I hope you find it very helpful.

Thank you for using fixya.com
