Toughbook CF-18 won't start-up after adding RAM
There could be several problems with what you have done with your laptop. One of the problems which I have seen alot happen when changing ram in a laptop is you have gone over the limit of what the laptop can handle. Have you tried putting your old ram back in. If not try putting your old ram back in and see if the laptop boots up. If not then unplug your laptop and take the battery out and hold the power button down until the count of 10 mississippi which will drain the onboard power supply allowing you to reset the mother board. Did you ground yourself while working inside the laptop. If your body had any static charge to it while working inside the laptop you might have shocked the hardrive or one of the other vital parts inside. Also check your work to see that you didn't accidently knock a wire connection loose while working inside since laptops do not have alot of room to work this happens alot also.

I have a Panasonic CF_72
This is just a suggestion, but some Dell Computers use an AC adapter which sometimes power the computer but do NOT charge the battery pack.
Simply trying another different power supply or AC Adapter will fix the problem without changing the voltage regulator.
I hope this corrects your problems.

Got puter updated now touchscreen doesn't work
AAh ha. That means the mother board disk has probably not been installed yet. You will need the mother board disk or the install software for the computer.
You will need to
register with Panasonic to get your software. This is a commercial product so you will have to provide a valid serial number.

ENTRY IN SETUP
Windows 98 does not support USB and therefore no USB devices will work without a driver.
Why ae you using Windows 98?
If you insist on using a very old Windows operating system then at least use Windows ME, it does support USB devices.
Try pressing the DEL or F10 key when you boot up to get into the BIOS.

CF72
have had motherboards become static choked, and all you can do if this is the case is to leave it plugged in to power supply, but turned off, for a day or two. don't know if it works with laptops, but sure works great with "dead" motherboards.

Panasonic toughbook pass word
Is the password set in the bios(the system asks for a password before
booting up)?In that case, contact a service-man. He will help u reset
the bios by opening the laptop and reinserting the button cell present
on the motherboard.
OR
If the password is set in the OS(user password), then reinstalling the Operating System will help.

Screen upside down on a panasonic CF-T8
On any Panasonic Toughbook you can rotate the screen as follows:
Hold down the "CTRL" and the "ALT" keys and while holding down
these two keys press the "UP Arrow" key and then release all
three keys. This will reset the screen so it is right side up instead
of upside down.
Good Luck and regards from:

P.S. The arrow keys look like this: The up arrow is the one on the top

Screen stays dark
On ALL Panasonic Toughbook Models,
if the screen stays dark I would shut-off the
Toughbook and connect an external monitor
to the VGA port (15-pin female connector),
which is usually BLUE in color.
Make sure the monitor is ON first, then
turn ON the Toughbook.
If the monitor comes on then your problem
is the backlight or possibly the inverter of the
screen.
If no image is shown on the external monitor
and the screen stays dark and you cannot
hear any startup (ie. Windows) sound, then
your video card may be defective. Very few
Toughbooks fail this way since they are
normally very very relaible but it can happen.
Good Luck

Laptop dies when unplugged
Panasonic Toughbook PC Laptops usually have
very reliable battery pack. When your unit is plugged-in
but the Power is OFF, you should see an LED light as follows:
RED FLASHING: Means the battery needs replacement.
Orange/Yellow Solid: Means battery is charging.
Solid Green: Means battery is fully charged.
NO Light AT ALL: Means that Battery Pack is missing.
There is also a battery calibration utility on all Panasonic
Toughbook PC's manufactured since 2004. This is a factory
installed software and is only present in factory units.
This software may also be downloaded as a driver from the
Panasonic Toughbook website as follows:
http://pc-dl.panasonic.co.jp/dl/
Check also in the bottom right hand corner under
Windows for the battery Icon. This will indicate if
the battery is charging, present or not present,
and under Windows 7+ will indicate if the battery
needs to be replaced or not.
Good Luck!
