sometimes that is the way it is. i have a centrios dvd recorder and the best universal remote you can get still will not operate it. guess youll just have to go with the remote for your emerson and keep using it. sorry bout the truth...

Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc.

this is 9 times out of ten a bad relay or power supply unit there might be a bad capcitor inside that is causing this shutdown, I would rule out the powersupply before the relay at this point. remove rear panel , on the left side when looking at the back you will see several sets of 2 wires connecting to the main board. they tend to short out against each other. use black electrical tape to insulate them where they touch each other.

Have you tried using a new video cables? Alot of times when a composite cable(or others) get cracked, or a loose connection this is an issue.

if not then its likely you have a problem known as vertical banding......
I think your TV have a trouble inside lcd panel
the controller board contains driver IC. Deffective driver IC can cause of line display.



Three reasons why one vertical line accross screen can happen in LCD;

1.The missing signal from the controller IC to
LCD driver.
2. LCD driver IC itself defective
3. Dry contact in the tape carrier package.

if your tv is not under warranty... and if you are comfortable repairing the tv urself..... go ahead with the below repair....
please make sure that you have unplugged everything before venturing for the repair..... as these units have pretty high voltages.... also when ur opening the unit make sure u do not accidentally disconnect the solders.... that would cause further complications.... o proceed with the below steps only if ur 100% comfortable....
Use masking or electrical tape to mark it where the line was located. press it if the line back to normal but when release your hand came back i think it was intermittent. Open the LCD panel



Use rubber


Place the rubber on the top of TCP


Gently close back the top casing



if that doesnt help....... it is advicable to get a tech help......

Well the official term is "F" connector, But the assembly is called a tuner, sometimes it is referred to as the antenna lug.

I'm not too familar with this model, but to give you some pointers, you will find when you have this problem the fuse will go straight away as there will be some of the semi-conductors short circuited. Check your bridge rectifier diodes & also the chopper transistor in the power supply. As a general check, test most of the diodes & power transistors & replace any that read short circuit on your meter. Hope this may help you as a guide line.

Had similar problem with my 20" model - here's what I did:
1. Inserted initial password which the manual states is '0000'.
2. Pressed 'Menu' on remote control.
3. Chose 'Settings'.
4. Chose 'Installation'.
5. Chose 'Automatic search'.

Unfortunately, what you're describing is a repair issue. You won't be able to address the problem with troubleshooting. There is a part inside the TV that needs to be replaced. If you're under warranty, this will cost you nothing. If you're not under warranty the cost will likely be a minimum of $200 parts and labor. However, be warned that the cost could be considerably higher.

you can test remotes by aiming them at a video camera or a digital camera and the LED on the frount should flash quicklyif it works. Replace the batterys if it doesn't

Try leaving the TV unplugged for 30 mins so the TV can reset itself.
If that doesn't work, most cases with the Emerson TV, the Inverter Transformer goes bad on the backlight Inverter Board. It's what powers the screen for your TV. If it can't power up the screen, it automatically shuts off. Basically, they call this "Protection Mode" with this happens.

Just make sure the board number matches your board.

yes theres a mutli input box you can buy they even have them at wallmart its an AVI box all you have to do is plug the wires into tv INPUT and then to the OUTPUT on the box and then theres multiple inputs on the box to hook up moree

had same problenm with mine it was a fuse that blew. took repairman 5 minutes to fix charged $136.00
