LG 42LB1DRA 42 in. LCD Television - Page 3 Questions & Answers
I have an LG, LCD
some times you have to turn it off, unplug it, wait for 20 secs and plug it in again and turn it on, this would be the last step after trying the remote control thing, you know, check if mute buttom or volume, or the languaje option, good luck, God bless
LG 42lb1dr remote control quit working. Changed
The Main Boards in these sets have caused remote control issues and could also cause the Reserved indicator to light. You will need the Model number, and the extension letters and numbers to the right of the Model Number to order the board. I would also have the Serial Number just in case it is also required.
Hope this helps,

42LB1DR comes on by itself at random times.
That is another common issue with these sets. Mine does it too, but not often. The kids think it is "ghosts". :-) I read elsewhere that it is a firmware bug, and that the latest firmware update fixes this as well as a host of cable-card issues. I asked LG how to obtain the updates and they want me to spend several hundred on a service call.
I just bought a used
There is a small fan next to the hard disk (DVR). It usually stays on for a while after the set is turned off. It shouldn't be too noisy, but if it is loud, it may be dirty or going bad.
Beware that this model is notorious for power supply capacitor problems (there are several which are under-rated for working voltage) as described in other posts on this site. You'll want to check out your PS as well if you open the unit up.
HDD Recovery failed
I have had this problem intermittently for some time and have not found a solid solution for it yet. The HDD may be going bad or it may be a power supply or digital board problem. I just replaced the 3 bad capacitors on my power supply a few months ago, then the set started having HDD problems. As of now when I want to record, I have to unplug the AC power for a few seconds to get the relays to reset, then the HDD will start and be readable until the next power cycle. Sometimes I have to leave the unit unplugged until the power light goes out completely (capacitors drain) in order to get it to work. I'm still working on a final solution for this issue, but the set is a 2-man lift and a pain to open up.
Last time I had it apart, I noticed that the SATA cable to the HDD was strained where it came off the connector on the digital board since LG used a straight cable instead of a right-angle one. I just ordered a new cable and will let you know how it goes. I also wast to put in a larger disk at some point.
No sound or picture
Hi,
I am sorry to hear regarding the problem.
Disconnect the power supply for few minutes, say 15 minutes and then turn it on. This would reset the TV. If the problem still persists, then it is highly suggestive of an internal component failure.
There could be few issues that might be there. First, it could be an issue with power supply board. You might see swelled/ bulged /leaked caps. If that's the case, you need to solder the new caps. You could buy the new caps from radioshack or fry's. The other strong possibility could be the mainboard. This is often a problem with this set. If that's the mainboard, the cost of part is around $250 and labor cost is around $100.Last possibility could be a problem with backlight or LCD panel. However, i would strongly lean towards power supply and mainboard.
If you want to repair it yourself, revert and i could provide few more details. Be advised that i could only guide you. As i am not there, you need to take all necessary precautions. You might need to use multimeter and soldering iron.
Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
Tv does turn on but
I had the exact same problem, same TV... LG 42LB1DR. TV just shut down one day after 27 months. Power stayed on and the LCD had power but no audio or video. I went online and found this forum. I purchased four 2200uF @ 25v, and one 1800 uF @ 35v Panasonic capacitor's for a few dollars at DigiKey. I upgraded to 25v & 35v from 10v & 25v respectively because it seems that the originals were under-rated. The tv came with 10v Samxon caps that seem to be problematic in all the units they were used in. Do not buy Samxon if you do this yourself.... I opened the set by taking off the plastic back panel and then by removing the second metal panel. There are a lot of screws, and you also have to remove the nuts on the F connector bodies and the retaining screws on the D-sub connectors as well as some small screws around the HDMI input and analog / composite connectors. There are three boards and a hard drive. The board on the far left just above where the plug goes in is the power supply board. There are five data cables and one red power cable attached to it that can be removed simply by carefully unplugging them. The board is fastened to the unit with five small screws, one on each corner and one in the middle of the right side. If you look for three green capacitors grouped together around the middle of the board and slightly off to the right, you will probably see one or more that is bulging out at the top. This is most likely "C235", the main problem. The other three caps that need replacing are C202, C201 and C219. C219 is closer to the top part of the board. There is also the 1800 uF cap which I've seen go bad once, but didn't note the number.
You'll want to make sure that you put the negative terminal of the capacitor through the right hole, otherwise you will pop the cap. The negative terminal is clearly marked on all the capacitors. With needle nose pliers, grip the cap and pull down while heating up the terminals. The cap will eventually come out. A de-soldering bulb, solda-pult, or solder-wick make this easier. Put the new cap in (you may need to heat the solder that is left on the board to clear the hole so it can push through). When both terminals are through, bend them slightly so it stays in place. Take the solder and stretch out a few inches off the roll and while holding it in one hand, lightly touch the base of the terminal where it comes through the board, with the soldering iron and the solder at the same time. --- Try not to use too much solder.. you only need a tiny drop. This will solder the cap in place. Cut off the terminals close to the board with some snips and repeat this on the other three. Put the board back in, plug in the cables. Test the TV before putting the back panels on. It should work fine if all went well..... If you hear a pop than you reversed the terminals on a capacitor and that one will need to be redone correctly.... This might sound lengthy and potentially difficult but its worth a try. Otherwise you can pay someone to replace the entire board for BIG BUCKS with the same junk caps on it and have the same problem in a year or so. LG doesn't want to take responsibility for this and I'm sure that it has cost a lot of people a lot of money for about $8 in parts........... This worked for me and it can work for anybody with the same problem.. Good Luck!
I turn it on and
The tv power supply board is dead. That the board, where the power a/c cord plug into it.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish power supply board for the replacement.
Tv comes on with no picture and tv shuts off after
In these cases you might be able to see a
picture by shining a bright light right next to the screen front. Do not put the light there for very long or you will end up
with a permanent bright spot burt onto the screen. I have discovered that applying light pressure with a 3/8" thick rubber or
plastic shim corrects a panel inverter/driver board/card solder problem with many flat panel TVs. (Removing
the back is required, try light pressure against the board while wearing rubber gloves and tv is then powered on.)
