Some high end ones will allow a DVD of the same make, but that is already programmed into the Television remote. This seems to think it can, but it is an advertising lifestyles website for Houston. So much depends on the model of the Sharp.

I would be cautious about downloading firmware/software from anywhere other than the oficial LG web site as you may render the system useless and unrecoverable if the wrong version or there is an error in the download gets installed. This tv will be so easy to diagnose, a 4th grader with a multi meter could fix it. There are only 3 simple tests to do, for starters make sure the power supply is working, not sure why you would have ordered another board without testing the one you have!! Use frame as ground, push the power button, put red or hot lead of multi meter to pin 8 or 9 on CN 802, you need 12 VDC there, anything from 11.5 to 12.5 is good, if you see that voltage the power board is working, see how easy it is to trouble shoot the power board and I'm guessing it will be ok as this power board almost never gives issues. Next test, on the main board look for the the digital optical audio input jack, take a small screwdriver and push the cover open and you should see a red light inside of it, if you see that the main board is working, this model has some issues with the main board BGA IC need reflowing but the simple test of looking for the red light inside the audio optical jack, now with process of elimination and the fact 90% of LED TV failures are the backlights you have come down to them being bad and needing to be replaced. You will need to remove the frame and the panel to get at the lamps, be VERY careful handling the panel, it's very fragile, there will be a piece of plexi glass and 2 or 3 defuse screens after you get the panel out that need removing, put tape around them and mark the top, as you need to put them back in the same way they came out. Best place to order parts is shopjimmy,com, I looked and they have them in stock for $50 plus shipping. See diagnosing a TV is very simple as long as you know what to look for and in what order to do the various steps needed. What is happening is, you power the set on, see the message at the top come on for a second and go off, the power board has the inverter built into it, when the set is turned on it looks for the proper DC voltage and current draw to the backlights, your current is higher than allowed so the inverter is shut down, resulting in no backlights, and no it's not a fault of the power supply. Hi Leigh, I can give you some useful advice on your TV. First thing to do is unhook the ribbon cables going from the tcon to the panel boards one at a time ( they will be flat cables) , then power the set on, if you see a normal half a picture on the side that's still hooked up and white or black on the unhooked side you have a bad panel and the set won't be repairable, if you don't get a good half a picture most likely the panel is ok, then there is 2 other possibilities, bad tcon or main board, this 100% will NOT be a power supply issue like the other posted advised. I'd replace the tcon first as it's much less costly than the main, if that doesn't fix it it's the main, unfortunately there isn't a way to test either board without several thousands of test gear, only option is order a good board. Best place to get boards is shopjimmy.com, however if they're out stay away from ebay, a lot of sellers on there get sets that don't work and part them out with no idea of what boards are bad or good, it's very possible you would get another bad board. This will be a capacitor issue in one of the sus boards, look for bad caps or pull them and test with a capacitance tester.

This wouldn't be a HDMI issue, you would have the problem on all the screen if that was the issue. On the left side of the TV (looking from the back) there will be some narrow long boards, some models use 2 some use 4, those are the scan driver boards, chances are that's where the issue is at. It's normal for those to work for awhile when the set is turned on, you could switch them around and see if the issue goes from the top to bottom to confirm this is the issue.

First off, 126 vdc is the backlight B+ voltage using frame as ground, if you measure across the + and - pins on the plug with it connected you should be seeing a couple volts if the backlights are bad, what's happening is the inverter overload is shutting down the minus side, you will always see the hot side voltage of around $125 vdc if the inverter is working. Very good chance you have bad LED backlights as they are known for failure on this and a lot of other LG model sets.

Don't suppose you have a re-flow oven. If it worked for awhile after soldering on the main board I'd try re-flowing the entire board, sounds like some cold solder joints if it worked for awhile after soldering. Not sure how a grounding issue would make half the picture have issues however but anything is possible.

Where is a CCA (charge coupled device) found in a LED TV? I've repaired thousands of LED TV's and have never replaced a CCA, nor found one on a LED TV.These are common in video cameras but not TV's

Buy a new TV, water and electronics don't mix

I assume you changed all the LED strips when you changed the bad ones, NEVER replace part of them, if you didn't replace them all, open the set up again and replace the ones that weren't replaced the first time and all will be well.
