Tv works good except now it would take forever to
Hi. I hope this helps.
What you describe is almost ALWAYS a capacitor failure.
Capacitors charge the screen, so that when you push the power button, or hit the on button on the remote, the screen turns on for the tv.
It does this by building up a charge in the capacitors. This works as a booster to help jump start the screen.
However, when capacitors fail, slow power ups, unexpected power off's, blinking lights with or without the tv working, and sometimes catastrophic failure can occur, whereas the capacitor gel leaks out of the container, and shorts out the circuit board.
The gel can be corrosive, and is kind of like battery acid, in that it is harmful.
If you have your heart set on keeping the tv, then I would recommend taking it to Fry's or BestBuy.
They both have trained staff for this exact repair.
Capacitor repairs can be expensive, so weigh that into your decision , ok?
Both those places should give you an estimate so that you can see which one is cheaper, which one can have it done quicker, if they deliver, things like that.
Then after seeing all the info, make your decision as to whether it's worth it to fix it back up.
