Brother MFC-8460N Laser Printer Questions & Answers
Resetting "Replace PF Kit 1" message
Same with me on my MFC 8870DW. The procedure worked perfectly:
1) Turn off printer
2) Press and hold menu button and turn on. Keep holding button until you see maintenance on display.
3) Press 88. This brings up parts replacement menu.
4) Press Up arrow until you see the part you replaced (laser, fuser, pf kit1, pf kit mp).
5) Press the OK button.
6) Power off and restart printer.
But how do I know whether or not I really NEED to replace a PF Kit1? I guess I'll find out if it recurs soon.

Brother MFC-8460N ... No Paper response
I had the same problem with a customer, to resolve this issue:
> Go to the printers folder
> Right click on the printer
> Go to printing preferences
> Under the paper source settings change it from autoselect to Tray1 and save the settings.
This will force the printer to print to tray1.
That fixed it for me, hope it works for you too.

HELP! Brother MFC-8460 "Toner Life End" won't clear
The problem with a new toner cartridge that will not signal the printer that it has been changed has to do with a gear positioned wrong on the new or rebuilt cartridge... we had 3 factory brand new toners that would not clear the replace the toner message... I finally found the following link that came from a toner company that sells refills that tells how to reposition the gear to let the machine know a new cartridge has been installed. I did the proceedure on pages 5 & 6 having to reposition the gear and all cartidges then worked flawless... it works.

What is a PF kit
This is a "Paper Feed" kit and comprises several small pieces including rollers, springs and friction separator pad. Some models have several of these and will be named "PF1 kit", "PF2 kit" etc normally one for the manual feed tray and one for the paper drawer.
If you look at the front of the paper drawer, you will see a spring loaded friction pad in the centre used to hold back all but one sheet of paper. Directly above this in the printer chassis will be a loose rubber roller assembly which grabs the sheet of paper. together, this collection of parts is called a "PF kit".
The printer memory counts the number of pages fed and will count down an estimated useful life of these parts but this is at best a "guess". When they will no longer reliably feed fresh new paper without jamming, they probably need replacing.
