if thermal the paper might be too old or the print head is going bad. if ribbon try replacing the ribbon, or you have a bad batch of ribbons.

Zebra LP2824 not printing
Sounds like you put your printer into line mode. Line mode prints code so you can see what is sent to the printer to look for possible mistakes in the code.
To switch from line mode back to page mode.
- Turn printer off.
- Press and hold the feed button down. And switch printer on.
- Release the feed button when the LED flashes red.
- When the LED flashes green, press down the feed button.
- When the LED flashes amber release the feed button.
- Try printing now that the printer is back in page mode which is used for print your labels; line mode prints the labels code.
- Do this fast or else it wont work if you are slow.
The lables will not advance unless you hold down
there's a small optic sensor on the right edge that detects if the printhead mechanism (lid) is locked down. If the lid doesn't fit tight, then the printer thinks the lid is still open. By pushing on the lid, you block the sensor and labels print.
I have blocked that sensor by putting a small piece of label or masking tape over the sensor to block it. Now the printer will print even if the lid is not down tight.
More of a band-aid than a permanent solution to finding out why the lid won't lock down properly but it may help.

Look at the program you are trying to print to the unit from. Do you have the correct print driver to go along with the new label size and/or software program sending the print job to the printer? You can have the printer installed on a PC or network but without the proper driver you'll get blank or jibberish labels instead of the desired output.
What type of ink it uses
That is a thermal printer, it uses heat to print on the paper, not ink, the only thing to worry about is the paper, it has to be thermal paper so the letters can be printed.
