I suggest sending the mic to Shure for repairs. That will be cheaper than purchasing a new mic.

Ther's a little hole where you can adjust the gain.

Ensure the battery in the mic is 100% - low batteries can cause all sorts of symptoms. I wouldn't recommend anything other than a well known brand of Alkaline battery and definatley not rechanrgables.

Any Shure receiver that operates exactly at 173.800 MHz will work with your transmitter. These receivers have been discontinued for several years, so it will not be easy finding one on the exact frequency that you need.

Try using a mixing console with phantom power ( + 48 ). A condenser mic needs 48 volts to operate. The led should light when the XLR microphone cable is connected to a console with phantom power.

That would be nearly impossible to do. However, you should be able to get a schematic from Shure Service at [email protected]

It's hard to tell what might be causing the mic to not power on. It would be best to send the mic to Shure for repairs. Contact Shure Service.

To open the SM-58 you can unscrew the top of the body. I don't mean the grill.
Sometimes it's a hard job to open it.

Your gain adjustment should be increased in the microphone or maybe the outputlevel from your receiver. If both doesn't solve your problem, maybe the element has a problem. You could turn of the grill and you will find the solderingjoints, just tip it with your finger. If you hear some hum, your element has a problem.

I know they could have come have come up with something a little more durable!!

What we used to do is put a piece of double side tape at the back (the thick 2mm spongy one) and then put paper or something over the front so the battery doesnt stick to it, battery then has alot more pressure on it. The tape sticks into the back of the mic. Its a bit stoneage, but worked pretty well.

About half way up the body you will see a seam. The body with the cartridge and wind screen separates from the bottom half of the body at that juncture. You have to unscrew one from the other. You will see wires that have to be unsoldered. Make note of where they were soldered and do the same thing for both the mike with the dead cartridge and the mike with the good cartridge. Swap straight across and you're done. Hope this helps.

Unscrew the wind screen and slide out inside component, be careful not to pull too hard and disconnect wiring. You may have to re-seal with a clear silicone gel afterwards.

It sounds like system incompatibility and the fact you are using a fake copy of one of the best microphones that has set an industry standard. See if you can find someone with a real Sure, or comparable mic. Also check the wiring and shielding on the mic, and also on the on the socket of the Complete. Hum and Buzz is nearly always bad wiring. You could also post here in this forum.
