Memorex MVD2040 DVD Player Questions & Answers
I have several old dvd players. They work but
Correction, it prob is the actual movie when it says "no disc". DVD sub formats have changed so much from when players first came out to today that it is like the difference between windows 95 and windows 7. A lot of the new movies will not play on the older players because it does not reconize the format. On the ones that it skips on, the player thinks it knows the format but doesnt have the compression right. Old players make good paper weights.

My Memorex 2040 dvd player
The Parental controls for your DVD player has been turned on. The default setting for most Parental Control setup is G rating meaning that anything above a G rating will not play unless the override code is entered. I was unable to locate a copy of your manual, but if you look in your copy for a heading called Parental Controls, it should explain to you what has to be done to either change the rating or remove the control altogether. Unless you have small children that may use your player you can probably remove the controls altogether. Normally you would have to go into your Setup menu, and then look for Parental Controls in that menu. Unless someone setup a code, you should be able to go in and just turn it off. If there has been a code applied and you are unable to find out what it is you will have to contact Memorex support to find out how to remove it. To ensure that it doesn't get turned back on you might want to hide your remote, as you need to use it to turn the feature on and off.

My memorex DVD player's drawer won't open. It is
Unplug it for a week or so. then plug it back in and it will reset. It must take awhile to discharge the capacitors in the machine to reboot the thing if you get a voltage spike or anything. Ours did that too once when the electricity went out suddenly. Then it wouldn't turn on.
I took it over to my house and left it set for a week and tried it again and it worked fine. So I took it back to my mothers house and used it. It's still working three years later.
My expensive JVC did the same thing to me.
My memorex DVD player doesn't read the discs
If you already tried to
clean the laser lens and that did not work, it seems like the lens is
defective. This product has a 90 day warranty so you'll need a copy of your
proof of purchase in order to get a warranty replacement from Memorex.
Make my memorex mvd2040 play
In order for you to make the unit read home movies, you haveto make sure the AVI files are being converted to a DVD format. If the video isnot transcoded to that format, the player will not recognize the disc. You willneed to use a burning application that converts the files prior to burning it,or get software that converts files to DVD and then burns it to a disc.
I Bought a memorex DVD
The data on the dvd disks is encoded to prevent copying. The encoding protocol is called CSS and it's licensed by a group of movie and software companies to the manufacturers of dvd players - they load it in the firmware for the players to decode the data and allow you to see the movie.
In your case either the firmware is corrupt or the processor is defective, the result being that the CSS decoding program no longer functions and the data can't be decoded into a movie.
This means that it's a hardware fault in the mainboard of the player. Since no replacement boards are available for this player it means that the player can't be repaired, it's dead. Time for a new one.
