Does this happen with any disc or a disc? Playing a contaminated disc can cause heads to get dirty causing above results. Make sure discs are clean when inserted. (Young children can handle discs improperly and get fingerprints and other stuff on discs, resulting in dirty DVD heads) Purchase and use a DVD head cleaning disc. May have to use it a few times initially. Then make sure disc is clean before inserting. Wiping gently with paper towel dampened with water or vodka generally works to remove contaminants. Wipe only the bottom, not the top until it appears shiny.

Will your machine play standard movie DVD discs? if it does then the laser pickup assembly is the problem. The blue ray discs require a higher precision tracking to offer better resolution.

I would say the easiest way is to buy an inexpensive universal remote. Keep the receipt in case it does not work. If the remote does not work with the system then simply return it, and try another. Although this might seem like a headache it can be better then sitting up all night trying codes that will never work for the DVD Player you have. I have been through this frustration before.
