Freezer stopped freezing. The Freezer

The freezer not freezing can be 1 of 2 problems, the first being a defrost issue. If the defrost timer or defrost thermostat are bad they will not activate the defrost heater in order to keep ice from building up on the evaporator coils. In order to find out if this is your problem, remove the panel off of the inside of the freezer to expose the evaporator coils. If there is a lot of ice build up, this is your problem. The second problem will be that the compressor is low or out of freon. You will know if this is your problem if the evaporator coils are only partially frosting, there will be NO ice on the coils if this is your issue. This problem can only be repaired by a certified technician. If it ends up being just a defrost problem you can order the parts to repair it at Reliable Parts, using your model number to look up the parts. For information on how to perform your repair, please reply.

Freezer is not keeping cold

Hi.

Listen to the compressor.
If the compressor works try performing a complete defrost.
If the fridge restarts working and stop cooling after days or weeks, then it was the defrost system. Defrost thermostat and other parts in evap must be tested.
If the compressor never comes on, then the compressor is shot.
Other problem is gas leak.

Check compressor and try doing a defrost first.

My refrigerator is a little over 3 years old ,the

if the sealed system loses vacum and gas the sytem can no longer cool this is true. same as a aircoditioning device it uses this to heat trasfer from the inside to the outside.

it should be possible for the leak to be found and repaired and then the system refilled with gas and resealed. you would have to look at the cost of this over the cost of a replacement fridge.

i hope this was useful

I have had this refrigerator about 3 years and it

The first thing I would do is to check door seal for any nicks or tears. Wipe seal off with dry soft rag and do the same on the sealing surface on freezer frame. You can put a light film of petroleum jelly such as vaseline or equilavent on seal and sealing surface.
Check to see that door is hanging straight in relationship to frame. If it needs adjusted you can get replacement teflon washers from frigidare dealer. These washers go in door hinge pivots. If you can see anywhere along the inside of freezer door seal where there is a build up of frost then the seal is leaking at that point.
If your fridge is working ok but not as good as it used to I would check the seal on it also. One other thing you can do is to use a hair dryer to heat seal in locations that show signs of wearing unevenly. Heat slowly and wipe clean. Then apply thin coating of vaseline.
If you need to replace the door seals most of them can be done by you. Some can be a pain but Ithink when you see the price of most factory seals you will want to try to do it yourself. Also if you determine that the doors are not hanging properly there is a small amount of adjust you can do without having to replace washers. Just loosen Hinge screws and hold door where you want it when you retighten. I hope this helps you. Thanks

Refrigerator doesn't stay cool enough

Sometimes it is just a matter of excess dirt and dust build up on your coils. Take the bottom toe- kick louver off your fridge and try to clean off your coils. Use a very small hosed wet-vac and a long neck feather duster to reach in and clean as best as you can. If this does not seem to help within a couple hours you may want to try a manual defrost. Reply back to this post and let me know.

Can I adjust the door for a better seal?

Not really. The only adjustment you can do is to move up and down the door. If your appliance is more than 5 years old, you may need to consider a gasket replacement.

The freezer on my fridgidare

Hi,

There is a complete guide you could follow. This is written in simple words and cover the major part that does not require a tech.Look at :-

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3886637-refrigerator_not_cooling_enough_or_not

To inspect the freon, there is a nice article :-

http://fridgeman.wordpress.com/2008/06/08/simple-ways-to-know-if-your-fridge-is-low-on-freon/

It is made in 2004, so freon should be fine unless there is a leak. This could only be determined by a special instrument which is available with licensed tech.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

My frigidaire stopped making ice

Inside the fzr on the side of the icemaker is a metal wire arm that needs to be down and not raised. (down on raised off) If you manually put water in the tray and the next day the ice is in the bottom your water valve may be bad it is located on the back bottom of fridge where the water line hooks up. Also make sure the motor in the back is not jammed if you have a door ice/water selection. If none of these replace the unit they are held on by two screws and a multiwire plug and they are not exspensive.
