Have a SDHC 8gb Kodak card that won't format in Z1285

It's suggested that you use any SD Memory Card formatting Software to format the SD memory card. You can download any such Software from the address given below:
https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/support/jp/sd/sdfv2003.exe

Download the software from the above link and install in your computer and then format the memory card using it. After formatting the memory card, insert it in your Camera and use it normally.

My camera will not turn off /on. lens is stuck in

The problem is not sand, dirt, or grit. Take the batteries out of the camera and let it sit for an hour or so. Then put the batteries back in the camera. Always store and carry the camera without batteries. Insert the batteries just before you use the camera.

I suggest you give my Kludgy fix a go

This is not a joke........
This is not a joke........

Use a can of compressed air and blow around the lens while it is extended. Take a relatively firm approach with

this problem slap the camera into your palm two or three times.
Not lens down in this case, but using the side or rear of the camera to make contact with your palm
Make sure you have the camera cord around your wrist so as not to lose it across the room.

Do this several times and turn it on and off till the message of turn on and off no longer shows(if it ever did) and the lens retracts and works correctly. The compressed air will help remove any accumulated dust that is jamming the lens.
This is a sony tech fix and not a joke, they charge you $90 to do this and this fault is not uncommon in many of these small cameras, dust and dirt get taken into the lens bay ad eventually cause it to stick. Hence the use of compressed air with the brutal approach

Camera is stuck with lense fully extended and

If the lens is stuck out then you will find it is usually one of a few reasons.

1. Check the batteries. (obvious I know).
2. The camera has been dropped or knocked.
3. The camera has grit or dirt in the lens mechanism.

Providing the batteries are ok then 2 and 3 usually mean a professional repair. The lenses tend not to be something that the average home user can remove and take apart. The cost of repair also might be more than the camera value so you will need to find a good repair shop near you and get a quote.

Internal Memory full; No memory card in; Will not take pictures;

You need to get a memory card and promise to never use the internal memory again....it only causes problems as you have found out. When you get the new card follow this procedure: 1. With no card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format" and follow the on-screen instructions to format the internal memory. 2. Insert the new card and do the format thing again to prepare the new card. Happy photography!

Kodak EASYSHARE Z1285 tells me my memory card

Memory card support for Z1285: SD/MMC up to 2 Gigabyte and SDHC up to 8 Gigabyte.

There is no firmware available online for this model.

The last option could be that the lever on the SD card is making the SD card data protected. Please turn the lever to the correct side.

I hope it works out

It could be caused by your SD card needing to be formatted.

Format your SD card. NOTE this will delete all existing data on your SD card.
Do the following:

  2. Turn on the camera.
  3. Press the Menu button, then go to the Setup Menu.

Every time i go to take a picture it says prossing

I'm afraid that's a built in feature of this model.
I've heard rumors that it's due to the Color Science Image Processing Chip, the exclusive Kodak Color Science Chip but don't know if this is true.
It will also occur sometimes when you move quickly from photo to video mode.
