NO SOUND

First, check your tv's audio settings, somebody might be playing a prank on you. Next, try listening through the headphone jack, if it has one (after tv setting's ok). If sound is heard through the jack only, the audio jack might be defective, BUT highly unlikely if you hardly even use that headphone jack very oftenly. There are a couple more I'd like to say but will take up more space here. Using the remote control is one...i'm just suspecting these in order as my last resort...(switching) IC responsible for audio digital switching, or just plain ol' defective audio amp.

Tinny sound on tv

You might have a defective audio amp. One thing you can do is try to compare the impedances of the audio amp's left and right channel (tv off) outputs with speakers disconnected. any major inequality in (ohm) reading obviously will tell you so.

Philip tv no picture no sound

I have the model Philips 37PF7320A/37 won't turn on and MOST articles on the Internet say it's the Capacitors capictors capictors..I checked all of them. My tv just blinked red lights, had the clicking sound at first power on, but then goes black. No sound. No picture. Nothing. Just blinking red lights. MINE WAS RESISTOR no. 3318 , a 100 OHM RESISTOR ON POWER SUPPLY BOARD. I BOUGHT REPLACEMENT FOR .99 CENTS SOLDER IT, AND EVERYTHING WORKED!!! THAT WAS ALL IT TOOK. JUST A SUGGESTION.. 1. CHECK FOR BULGING CAPACITORS (90 PERCENT OF THE PROBLEM) 2. THEN CHECK FOR RESISTORS WITH MULTIMETER ( FALLS INTO THE OTHER 10 PERCENT OF THE PROBLEM.) TELL ME IF THAT [email protected]

There is a surface mounted fuse on the T-CON board which is fed either 5vdc or 12vdc (depend on the LCD panel) by switched transistor on the main board. You need to find out if there is voltage on that fuse. Post back what you find.
I hope that $20 board is good since it seems to be so cheap.

There's a good chance you have failing electrolytic capacitors either in the power section or the inverter section or both.
Any caps in these sections that look bulged at the top, or bulged/leaking at the bottom (look for discoloration of the circuit board around the base of the capacitor) need to be replaced.
If you repeatedly turn it off and on, eventually it'll probably stay on, but every time you turn it off, the unit will get harder and harder to start up until one day it just won't.
Sometimes you have to do the opposite to start it up and unplug it for some time and then try again.

If you aren't tech savvy, don't worry, read the rest of this solution and watch the videos.

If you are handy with a soldering iron and can identify the power supply and/or inverter / FM section for the backlights, an inexpensive handful of capacitors will likely fix you right up.
Match the capacitance on the capacitors. Go over voltage if you can, and still have them fit.
IE - it's not a bad idea to replace a 10V cap with a 16V or 25V or even a 50V, but don't replace a 680uF cap with a 500uF or a 1000uF (unless you are SURE it's only doing supply output ripple filtering,
and even then, you should go OVER, not under the uF rating).

Most of the caps that go are 10V 1000uF or 3300uF.

I found some great videos of the procedure (for many Samsungs with the same issue) on youtube.

Backlight related video here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XoF6QZ1dmw&feature=related

As you can see, this issue spans plasma TVs, as well as large and small LCD TVs and monitors, amplifiers, computer power supplies and motherboards, and other electronic equipment.
The parts are cheap, and skill required is minimal.
A great parts source is Digi-Key, and you can order the parts online at www.digikey.com
They typically cost under a dollar a piece plus a flat shipping rate.
The parts usually arrive one business day later.
If you watch the third video, you will see that even someone with no soldering experience can perform these repairs as demonstrated by the woman in the video.

Philips 52PFL7422D/37 TV - appears to be losing memory

From what you have described it sounds like the tuner is having difficulty receiving analog signal. A firmware update may do the trick. You can also try an RF-component RCA adapter that converts the analog signal into digital. The adapter costs about 40$.
