You do not set the TV resolution, what you put in is what you will get, works the same as your PC monitor. HI-DEF IN = HI-DEF OUT.

HDMI problems are very common. A poor HDMI connection will cause audio not to function, and ontop of that there are loads of devices that do not handshake properly with HDMI. Long story short its a real bugger sometimes.

That being said, unplug and replug cables. If you have a spare try it.

Now go into the setup of DVD, typically on Sony units you have to stop the disc from playing or open the tray. The press the "DISPLAY" or "SETUP" button to get into the menu. If you have the option for CUSTOM SETUP select it. Go to audio and set output to HDMI if its not already on it.

You may be able to change the different audio output styles on the DVD. Also from time to time in the TVs menu there is the option to turn audio on HDMI on and off.

The reason for this is that the incoming signal is not always the same. Stations broadcast in different formats from 480i to 1080. If the bars top and bottom or side to side bother you then you'll have to stretch the picture (try different modes) to keep the picture screen full.

I would take it back now, if you mess with it, it will void warranty, you may have a lemon in the your hand.

I had the same problem and end up unplugging the power, replugginging and then had to reprogram all of the chanels using the auto program. I still ahve a yy> show uo in the middle of the right had side of the screen when changing channel -- do not know why this happens -- good luck

Let verify first to narrow down to where the problem can be. First, check the on screen sound set up menu to make sure the speakers are not set to OFF. If the setting is OK, then attach the powered PC speakers to the Audio Line out RCA jacks to see if you can get the sound there, if you do, then the problem can be in the power amp circuits, if you do not get the sound at RCA jacks, then the problem can be in the sound processor circuit. Please post back what you find.

It can be that the backlight inverter board is going out or the power supply that supply the power to the inverter board is going out due to bad filter capacitors.

TAKE IT BACK!!! If you can. Many problems w/Dynex.Esp. Now they are no longer in business.
You can not get parts for them.Your remote problem may be a stuck button.Try pushing each button.Sometimes the rubber sticks if the remote is new.Battery may be bad or not making good contact.Take the batt.cover off and roll the batts. Also take the batts.out and push the buttons on the remote,then replace the batts.some times that works.But if you can take it back to Best Buy.And get another TV. Stay away from off brands. Also RCA are junk,not the same compant. I have too many in the shop to count even if I count with my toes. Samsung ,also Vizeo great for the price."basicly a lower end of LG"If you can't fine a decent priced TV at Best Buy,Try Wal Mart. But on all these new TV's,you need to buy the warenty.They still have alot of bugs to work out.That is about 98% of my business.Doing the warenty repairs in central FL.

I think you'll find that the tv is at fault. I, unfortunately bought one of these **** things as well. If you try to turn the channel, or volume, at the tv itself, you'll find that it won't work either. Seems to happen when switching between HD and regular programming a lot, but can happen at any time. You get what you ( and I ) paid for....

why havent you complained to the seller? This is a warranty claim as far as I can determine and over time it will only get worse till it stops altogether. The starter switch is faulty and needs replacing as does a few parts on the main board. Get it fixed before warranty expires

I know you've probably figured this out by now, since you posted last May, but I figured I would post the solution, since I just found it, and someone else may want to know.
I bought one of these sets the day after Christmas 2009, and finally figured out the code that works with the Dish Network 5.4 IR remote.
I did a Code Scan, and found that the code that works is 721. In the Dish Network listing, this is listed as the third code for Sansui.

Hope someone finds this useful, even if it's too late for you.

Dynex is a brand from BB which is very very poor for parts. It does have a problem, I would return it for a refund and look for a name brand. If I can be of any other help in your search for another one, please let me know.

Sound like you may have cold solder joints in the antenna connector. This may be a simple fix of repairing the connection points. If the television is still under warranty you will want to let the service center fix it.You can reach the Dynex customer service at this telephone number.1-800-305-2204 between the hours of 7am-12am CST. Give them the model number of your television and the problem you are having with intermittent sound from the antenna hook-up. If not under warranty, you will have to either do it yourself or have someone do it for you. You will have to remove the back panel and repair the bad solder joints. This will require a bit of technical know how. You will have to have a set of screw drivers, plastic pry bar and a soldering iron. You will have to remove all the case screws and then use the plastic pry bar to unlock the plastic case locks. You can unlock these locks by using the pry bar. Pushing it in the case and sliding it along the sides to open the locks. This must be done carefully or you will break the locks and the case will lock to- gether correctly. Then you will have to find the input circuit that the antenna connects to and rework all the solder joints. Add new solder to joints to make the joints strong again. Then test the unit and see if the sound comes back.If not you will have to look over the other parts of the circuit and see if you can find any other faulty joints and repair them. remember to never work on the television with the power on. You must be very careful working on the board. Do not touch any capacitors or other components. You may get a shock or give them a static electric shock and ruin the component. Try to wear anti-static wrist bands and gloves. This should be a simple repair for a experience electronic technician. If this does not fix the problem then you may have a more serious problem with the audio pickup circuits. That will require a service center to test and repair. These are short production run televisions and the service information is usually only released to the factories and selected service centers. That is you best bet to find such information if available at all. You may have better luck replacing parts and trying to buy other parts off of damaged televisions the same model as yours.
