Try it on a different computer: sometimes the USB connection is simply unable to provide sufficient power on some machines. If that fails then try a different USB lead as yours may be faulty. If the unit charges correctly in the car, then the USB socket on your Garmin is definitely OK.

Just connect the satnav to your computer with the mini USB lead. The narrow end goes in the back of the satnav and the other end in the USB port of your computer. You need to have the computer turned on and if the satnav doesn't turn on automatically turn it on also. It will take approximately 8 hours to charge.

I have the problem solved I at first had this problem after about 5 minutes of messing with my GARMIN NUVI and having many electronic gadget I thought about diffrent buttons to hit at the same time heres how you charge your NUVI with a computer and a usb cable

1st: make sure your NUVI is OFF then plug in the usb cable from the computer to the NUVI, after you hear your computer ding from new device connected, and the NUVI displays the computer icon move to step 2

step 2: if you have xp go to START and MY COMPUTER. with vista its START then COMPUTER button on the right side

step 3: with MY COMPUTER window open hold the NUVI power switch to the ON position and RIGHT CLICK the NUVI device logo (blue triangle) and select EJECT .. ( DON;T HIT SAFiLY REMOVE)

step 4: when you see GARMIN display on the screen you can letgo of the power button on the NUVI ****** if you unplugthe usb it will display message stating EXTERNAL POWER LOST SWITCHING TO BATTERY POWER***** while it is plugged to the computer the battery meter will disaper

Use the Garmin Express program from Garmin. Down load and install the program, then connect your GPS to your PC. The program will allow you to install map and software updates.

Go to Garmin and download and install Garmin Express, Plug your GPS into your PC. The GPS should power on and Garmin Express should identify it and tell you of any updates. If there is a software update available, that should solve your problem.

You might as well go ahead and replace the GPS, the screen has failed most likely, a new cost less than repairing it.

If you are not the original owner, you will have to hard reset the unit to factory, this will reset all stored information This tip will describe how to perform a hard reset of the device, and how to backup your 'Favorites' in case the hard reset erases them. The next step in fixing your Nuvi when it doesn't start properly is to update its system software using Garmin WebUpdater. A hard reset (or Clear All User Data) has been known to resolve unit quirks and strange behavior. It's generally recommended to perform it after a firmware update but is not required by any means. However, if you're seeing quirks and strange behavior with your unit after the firmware update, it is a good idea to do a hard reset of the unit. Backup and Restoration Procedure for Favorites: The Hard Reset procedure has been known to delete your Favorites, so back them up beforehand.

1. From the Nuvi drive, copy '/Garmin/GPX/current.gpx' to a backup location on your computer.
2. After the hard reset, copy your backed up 'current.gpx' from your computer back to the '/Garmin/GPX/' folder on the Nuvi, but be sure to rename it 'temp.gpx'.
3. On the next power cycle, the Favorites will be read from 'temp.gpx' into the non-user accessible memory area on the Nuvi where they are actually stored.

Perform the Hard Reset: *Note that this will clear all user selected settings on the unit

1. Power the unit off.
2. Remove the battery and wait several minutes.
3. Install the battery.
4. Press and hold (and continue to hold) the bottom-right corner of the screen while powering the unit on.
5. Continue to hold the screen until the "Do you want to erase all user data?" prompt appears.
6. Press "yes" and the unit will reboot. This resets all your location settings and user preferences.

If possible after the hard reset, let the unit sit outdoors in the open for about 30 minutes or so to let the unit re-acquire the satellite almanac data. Run the battery out completely. Charge it up, them connect it to a PC and perform a system update (or restore) if available

The antenna is located inside of the unit. It is about 3/4" square with a silver-plated copper plate mounted to a 1/8" thick ceramic square.

theres two hidden screws under the sticker on the bottom...they are torx screws, remove those then carefully split the case with your finger nail...the battery and the speaker are on the rear half.Bill EX Standing Member of G.O.T.Please Support Our Troops

The time should be automatic unless you are in a different time zone....

Not sure where you are located but here is the way to it to put your time zone

Tools....Settings.....Time.... ( Press ) Time Zone enter your zone there the proper time will appear

Going back to the security location will unlock the unit but in order to reset the pin code, the original pin code must be input.
To unlock the unit, it must be sent back to Garmin.
