Can't get update maps or

Have you installed latest "tt home" - in uk currently version 2.6.2 also latest version on your TT920?

I had to install several updates when I first purchased my tt920 about 1 year ago, and that was in about half an hour of installing software on pc. Now seem to get a Home update every few months.

The Logo screen freezes on start up.

Connect it to your pc then turn it on. It should either connect or ask you to connect to the pc. If tt home opens shut it down. Do a complete backup of your unit onto the desktop. DO NOT USE TOMTOM HOME TO DO THIS!!!! After doing a complete backup format the drive on your tt useing fat 32. Open tt home and let it reload your os. Do this a couple of times to get the newest os. Disconnect your tt from the computer the way you normally do and restart your tt. Reconnect your tt and do not let home start. Go to your backup and copy and paste your maps back onto the root of your tt. If you have any question email me.
Hope this helps

I have a tt 920. I can't get a gps signal either no matter where

Hi,
Sorry to hear that. I have this TT also & I live in Michigan. It shouldn't be doing that. Have you connected to PC and installed all updates? Have you done a soft reset?
If you have done those things & still have this problem I suggest you call the company. When I bought mine I had problems so I called TT, they sent me a replacement immediatly. Actually they sent me 5 different ones until I got a good one. I'll give you the #'s that I use to talk to them. Good luck.
If this helps plz rate this as 'fixa'. Thank you kindly.

Password locked

If you havent tried reset then a restore may fix it if you did a backup before you set the password. If you can read the contents on a pc there is supposedly a file that holds the pw that can be deleted which will then prompt you next time you boot up to give it a new pw but aint verified that one

Unable to change symbol on tomtom 920 sat navigation.

using TT home check that you still have the symbol you want installed on the TT. I had a similar problem where it would seem to forget what I had choosen on occasion and sometimes I had to use TT home to check and re-install. problem itself seemed to just go away. (Guess it got sick of me telling it LOL)

Flashing X on start up

If you have a memory card in then remove it press the reset and try to start up again.

This problem is usually the way the memory card is formatted.
I solved mine by doing a search for "format tom tom memory card" or "format tom tom SD card"

After I had done that I backed up my TT then put the card in and then restored to the card and all good from there on.

get the latest tomtom Home 2.5 application from www.tomtom.com and use this app. to install your new map. you may need to set up a registeration when you visit tomtom, but the map should go on to the device as long as you have room. put everything else i.e. phonebook, music, pictures on to the card.

Ive got 920 tomtom

Mine started doing the same thing after the most recent software update.  I suspect it's a bug in the new software and not a processor problem as suggested.  Have you tried to do a hard reset on yours?  I did and it seemed to help.  You need to press that little reset button on the bottom of the unit.

Tom Tom 920

Your Favorites are located in the Map directory in the TomTom.
For example if your using the North American map (North_America).
In a file named MapSettings.cfg.
When you update the map and some times the application this file is overwritten.
I recommend copying the file to the root directory of the TomTom or your computer if changes are made. That way you have a easy back-up of your favorites file.

Unfortunately to recover your old file you may damage other file in the process.

I hope this helps.

Not working

Hi , Its likely you have a faulty charger putting too much voltage out , or , your car cigarette charger socket is dirty or similar causing intermittent supply and resulting in voltage spikes going through the charger and into the TomTom .... or ... spikes caused when starting your car whilst the charger is plugged in. The tomtoms are very sensitive to any overvoltage and it blows 2 IC's inside the TomTom. The car chargers are also known to put out overvoltage when they go faulty , it's quite common. Some car alternators dont regulate their voltage very well at the point of starting the engine so it's probably worth having this checked by an auto electrician. Cranking the engine cna also cause the starter motor to act like a generator just at the point where the engine fires and this then results in a voltage comming back out of the starter motor and into the cars wiring. Your TomTom charger should cope with this but it is possible that any spikes manage to get past the charger and into the tomtom. if you have had one TomTom blow using any particualr charger unit , then don't risk using that charger on a different TomTom uless you have that charger checked for correct voltage.
Good luck.

For the guest comment .............. The Blue Tooth will not have caused the problem you are reporting , thats just a coincidence. The problems of having buttons highlight themselves and the touch screen not working properly is a fault with the membrain on the tomtom screen . Could be a fault on the membrain or just dust and dirt particles trapped under and around edge of the screen bezel ( plastic screen surround ). Try clipping out the bezel and see if theres any dirt around edges of screen . If there is , be careful how you clean that dirt / dust out. ... Good luck

Tomtom Go 920 failure

The power light only shows that power is getting to the TomTom. It proves nothing else and doesn't even confirm that the internal battery is charging. If you have tried a reset ( by inserting a paper clip into the reset hole at base of your TomTom and that hasn't worked then it's likely you have blown internal components . Usually caused by faulty charger. I hope the reset works ... good luck

Map for Zambia

As far as I know , there are no GPS type maps for Zambia . In fact you will be very lucky to even get a reasonable paper map for most African countries other than South Africa. You could try the Mitchelin series paper map books or try looking around on backpacking websites for people "in-the-know" . As for taking your TomTom it would only show you driving on a blank page .
Good luck with your travels and have safe journey.

My Tom Tom don't work at all

TomTom had a similar issue with another model the past year. Contact their customer support at 866-486-6866. It may require a patch or another solution, but their customer is great, and I wouldn't throw in the towel on your device yet.
