Hi
If your washer won't spin, check these:
It doesn't pump or spin
If it doesn't pump water out or spin, check to see if the motor is running, then proceed as follows:
- If the motor is running, your washer probably has a frozen pump pulley or a broken pump belt. To check the pulley, remove the pump from the washer and try to rotate the pulley manually. If it doesn't turn freely--if it's frozen or stiff--replace it. If the pump belt is broken or looks quite worn, replace it--but be sure to check the pump pulley before you change the belt.
- If the motor isn't running, the lid switch may be defective. If so, the washing machine can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.
It pumps, but doesn't spin
If your washer pumps out the water but doesn't spin, check these:
- The lid switch may be defective. If it is, the washing machine doesn't spin. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.
- The motor coupler may be broken. Many Whirlpool®-manufactured washers use a small, relatively inexpensive motor coupling. It's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. You may need to replace it.
- A belt may be broken. Many washing machines have one or two belts. If a belt is broken or badly worn, you need to replace it with a genuine belt from the manufacturer. (Some washing machine belts are designed with special characteristics not found in automotive belts.)
- The clutch may be worn. If your washer is a GE, it may use a clutch to come up to the proper spin speed. As the clutch wears out, it may prevent the unit from spinning well or at all. If the clutch is worn, you need to replace it. For this job, you probably want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician.
- The drive motor may be defective. Many washer brands use a reversing motor. For agitation the motor runs in one direction, for spinning and draining, the other. It's possible for a motor to burn out in one direction and continue to operate in the other. If this happens, you need to replace the entire motor.
- The transmission may not be shifting properly. Older washers produced by Whirlpool® have a transmission with an electro-mechanical shifter. If the shifter becomes even partially defective, the unit may drain the water but not spin. This is a complex system, if your washer has a shifter problem, you may want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician to repair it.
- The spin bearing or basket drive may be worn or seized. These components allow the inner tub to spin freely inside the outer tub. When this is the problem, you usually hear a loud sound during the spin cycle. Call a qualified appliance repair technician.
It spins only with the lid closed
For safety, washing machines are made so that they spin only with the lid closed. The lid switch prevents the spinning action when the lid is up.

The frigidaire agitates but does not fill with water
Hi, UNPLUG the washer and remove the panel behind the controls. Locate the water level switch (has 3 wires and a 5/16" hose). Remove the hose and then plug the washer in. Start the wash cycle and see if it fills. If it fills, you will need to unplug the other end of the hose that fits on a cup attached to the side of the tub.
Please let me know if this helps you so I can give you more instructions.
Thanks
Vic

The problem could be with the "belt", "transmission pulley", or the "idler pulley". If you remove the front panel and run the machine, you should be able to see where the noise is coming from. To remove the front panel, there are 2 screws located on the bottom of the front panel, remove them and then push in on the 2 clamps located on along the seam at the top of the panel and the top near the corners. It may just come down and off once you remove the 2 screws on the bottom. Once the panel is off run a small load of clothes and listen and locate the source of the noise.
Water won't drain from the
Hi,
Remove any kinks in the drain hose. Ensure that the washer is not sitting on the hose.
Inspect the household drain. Remove clogs, if possible. Call a plumber if you cannot remove the clogs.
Check the drain and make sure there is an air gap between the hose and drain. An air gap is necessary to prevent the drain hose from siphoning water.
Clean the pump filter. Open the pump access door. Turn the pump filter counter-clockwise and remove it. Remove dirt and debris. Replace the filter and close the pump access door.
Rearrange the clothing in the load. An unbalanced load can prevent the washer from spinning or draining.
Allow the washer to cool down for two hours. If the washer overheats, it will stop the motor and cool down before restarting.
Close the door completely. The washer will not operate if the door is not securely closed.
I hope the above helps.
Good luck.
Leaking water and also smells
is it making a loud sound in spin also. you may be having a tube sael going bad. if its leaking and getting onto the belt it will make is slip. just a fyi. if its leaking so bad that your seeing the water it may be to late to fix it on the cheap. the front panel comes off by taking the two screws out of the lowwer part of the front panel. the panel will have to be pushed down befor it will come off. it can be hard to get the screws out and getting panel off. the screws look as if they are number 2 phil. but try a number 2 square first.
I have an older gallery model number fws645gfs1
It won't drain so the pump is not working and if it does not spin then there is a problem with your transmission. You did not mention hearing any kind of noise so I will assume that the motors don't work. I think it is cheaper to replace than to repair. Good Luck
My frigidaire washer FWS85700DS0 is making a loud
Yes you can run it with the front off just be sure not to touch anything or stick anything in there. Also you can replace it with the unit standing upright very easy. You will need the model number to get a new belt from your local parts house. Once you have the new belt unplug the washer. Next slide your left hand into the washer from the bottom on the left side slowly pull the belt off the transmission pulley while with your right hand push that belt tensor in once the belt is off you will have to move the tub around to get the belt off just look how it runs thru there to all the pulleys so you can install it correctly and reinstall the new belt the same way. If still squealing you have a bad pulley or the transmission bearing is going bad and causing friction on the belt causing it to squeal and you cant lube anything but belt tensor with zoom oil I hope this helps will be standing by if you post something else.

Yes you can. Unhook the plug. Take the cover off if the back at the bottom. Have a 9/16" or 1/2" wrench handy and some thing to pry with. Loosen up one or 2 bottom bolts on the cage and pry motor out until you have 1/2" of slack pushing in side ways and tighten down. If belt is too far gone...replace it.
Our 5 year old washer
Sounds like you have a belt issue. Take the back off and look around. The belt probally just came off of the pully or the motor. If you dont see anything wrong then leave the back off and watch what happens when you get to the rinse cycle. Im guessing though that you will see a fray in the belt ergo why it still works kinda. To replace it you need the model number and make. And just reverse the way you take it out. Hope it helps and let me know what you find.
The washer goes through the
hi
there the first thing ill tell you is that the washer needs to drain
water before it can spin there are only a few factors that prohibit this
operation a faulty lid switch secound a blown or blocked water pump
being a fisher paykel they are famous for jammed water pumps as they
decided when they built the sysyem to turn the water pump upside down
this causes a lot of stress on the water pump see if you can lay the
hose on the ground and get all the water out i belive the machine will
then start to spin dry. in this case it is the water pump and have it
replaced its a simple operation if you can order the part fromf/p you
simply turn the washer on its side depress the white latch next to the
pump turn the pump clockwise till ity release from machine disconnect
power supply plug and fit new unit as per reverse
best of luck

My fridigare washing machine that won't stop
Does it have a built in drain pipe and is it flowing through this? The pipe usuall has to be looped up to almost the hieght of the machine before being allowed to flow down and out. It could be that the water is just running through. Think of it like the U-bend in the toilet. You need some resistance to hold the water you want and therefore when it is time to drain, the pump will kick in.
i hope that gives you a pointer.
