Cannot thread my PC 420

Try to push the lever down on a very fast and hard punch. Sometimes that is the way my machine works. Punch it!

Uneven feed

machines can have single or double feeders. what type does yours have? feeding problems can usually be fixed by a good cleaning+ oiling of the feeder mechanism which regularly gets clogged with lint+threads/scrap threads. brush it out thoroughly with a stiff-bristled brush like an acid brush. apply 1 drop of oil to each feeder seen on the foot-plate. wipe excess oil off with a clean dry rag being sure not to get any debris from the rag caught in the feeder(s). other problem might be your bobbin tension. this is usually adjusted on the bobbin race with a very small screwdriver.

Winding bobbin

The metal bobbin wind stopper beside the wind pin needs to be adjusted to allow the bobbin to fill completely. Be careful if you try to do this yourself as there is a nut inside the machine backing the screw. If you loosed the screw to far, the nut will fall into the machine and you will need to take it in for service:(

I have a Brother PC-420, 6 months old, originally

It needs some adjustments that are covered by the warranty. Bring it to the pros.

If you try to fix it yourself, the warranty will be void.

Sewing machine's bottom part won't move ;(

If your machine just came up this problem and it was sewing just fine before hand, then I would suggest that the part that makes the bottom move has gotten bent at some point. You may not be able to see the bend but that might be something to look into, and you may have to take it into someone to have it repaired. There should be a dealer or sewing store in canada that can honor the warranty.

The LCD panel lights up when turned on but nothing

Hi,

It seems to be a backlight issue and it would need replacement. You could contact Brother for the backlight. It is tricky to replace backlight ,however you could replace it if you have prior experience repairing these machines. Once you replace the backlight, it would solve the problem.

As for the actual replacing of the part, there is a great deal of delicate work to be done in removing the front panel and "A" Board to gain access to LCD Board, it would best be done by a service technician with the appropriate Service Manual......but you will need to source the part first of course.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Sewing makes huge loops on the bottom of the cloth

The loops on the bottom mean there's very little tension on the top thread. Back to the loopies.... Somewhere on your machine, there's a tension mechanism. On older machines, it's circular and has (usually) a numbered dial. On newer machines, it may just appear as a slot with a dial someplace with numbers 0-9 on it. In either case, the thread has to go between two metal disks, which are the tension elements. In order to get the thread in properly, you must raise the presser foot, which opens the disks. Then you can "floss" the thread in. Not raising the presser foot during threading is, in my experience, the most common cause of bottom loopies. Other common causes of loopies: --Trying to sew with the presser foot in the raised position (this usually happens when you're brand new to sewing or you're trying to sew something thick that just barely fits under the presser foot -- and you forget to lower the presser foot after you've put the fabric under. --Changing the setting on the upper tension dial. 4 to maybe 5 should give you proper tension for most types of sewing. Sometimes (often helpful, knob-twiddling family members) reset it to a much lower number. --Cruddlies in the tension -- impacted lint, a bit of broken thread, rust, This is usually curable by taking a fold of much-washed cotton muslin (the hem of a pillowcase or a bandanna is great for this), moistening it with rubbing alcohol, and flossing the tension with it. If you get rust out, you'll need a replacement tension (they're not all that expensive, mostly). In some cases, the machine was abused by running something like #69 upholstery nylon thread through it (it's too heavy for most home machines) and the disks are damaged and need replacement. --The thread is too heavy for the size of needle. This happens when you're trying to run something like topstitching thread with a small sized needle. The thread doesn't sit down in the long groove of the needle properly, and so lacks tension.
