Hi i need to clean up my macbook air and up date the system

I'll be short and to the point. 1. Click the Apple logo on top left of screen and open Software Updates. Let it run and find anything. For programs you installed yourself that aren't necessarily included in that update process open each program you think needs a freshening and at top left usually in preferences have it check for updates. 25358605-fcrvwjvxnzhx5abzoxrqks3e-2-5.png 2. Next OR before you do #1, go to Utilitiesin your Applications folder and open Disc Utility. Click your disc as the source and have the program do a Verify Permissions test. Fix any it points out but usually it will fix them for you. 25358605-fcrvwjvxnzhx5abzoxrqks3e-2-2.png 3. This may be hardest part! Organize your folders. Think of what you want in the main folders that are far left middle of screen. Don'tlet the Desktop get too messy. If you can't decide what to do with something make a folder called Desktop and the Date and save on Desktop. Take the 100 things and throw them in one folder ie. Next go thru each folderStarting with Documents (Leave Applications and administrator alone for the most part, they are not to be trifled with) Create New Folders in your Documents Folder. For each year add it, like 2015 and throw stuff that relates to 2015 like an Insurance info, etc in there. Add what you do for Work, School, Fun, things like Job and under Job add other folders like Insurance, Rules, whatever piles up in groups. ORGANIZE! Call it whatever works like I have Scott's Songs, Scott's Writing, Scott's Books, etc. No my whole thing isn't named after me! Just a few like those. Now do same for Pictures folder and organize it into other folders either by year 2012,2013,2014 or camera iPhone3, iPhone4s, etc. Or like one I have called Assorted Storage and there's where all those cool pics people send me go that I just can't for the life of me throw away! Organize it into Animals, Backgrounds, Camels (I have alot!), Do sam for Movies, not much to Music, and that's it. 4. Get a free Disc Usage program like WhatSize or that analyzes your Mac and shows where the HD/storage is used up. Throw away needless things. Get App Cleaner or whatever so it can search for little files in the Library where you don't want to poke around unless you now what you're doing. Also, open the administrator/Downloads folder and throw away old install discs, files you copied to music, or somewhere else, etc. Trim the fat. 25358605-fcrvwjvxnzhx5abzoxrqks3e-2-9.png 5. Lastly, in your browser's clear the Caches, DON'T Reset Safari to default. :) Clear the cache every week. Its like a browser en ema. 25358605-fcrvwjvxnzhx5abzoxrqks3e-2-0.png That's a good start. Have fun!

What does this mean?

It means that the computer cannot find a blessed volume to boot from. The cause can be a mechanical failure such as a disconnected data or power cable, or least likely a failed drive controller. This can also be the result of volume corruption. If the OS version is 10.7 or later, you can try holding down the keys cmd + R at startup to boot into the recovery partition. If that can't be found, then it is definitely a hardware problem. If you are comfortable poking around inside a laptop, you can check for loose connections, but otherwise this would be something only Apple could fix.

Keyboard not working

If you were using a bluetooth keyboard, it may still be looking for that keyboard. Resetting the PRAM may do the trick: You reset the PRAM by rebooting a Mac and then immediately hold down the Command+Option+P+R keys, you will then hear the Mac reboot sound again, signifying your PRAM has been reset. You must hit the key combination before the grey screen appears otherwise it won't work. you've tried rebooting, you've reset the PRAM, you've done it all, but your Mac is still behaving strangely. What next? In certain circumstances, resetting your Mac's System Management Controller (SMC) can be a solution. This is sometimes necessary to restore normal lower level system functionality to your Mac. Here's how to reset the SMC on any type of Mac (and any version of OS X) and the type of problems that it may resolve. When & Why Reset SMC on a Mac? Some Common Hardware Reasons Typically it's power and hardware related issues that can be helped or resolved by resetting a Mac SMC, particularly if you're having these types of problems: * Issues with your Mac's cooling fans and fan management: fans run constantly at high speed, fans run high despite low CPU usage and adequate ventilation, fans not working at all, etc * Power management and battery problems: Mac isn't turning on, sleep isn't working, random shutdowns and reboots, battery isn't charging, Mac won't wake from sleep etc * Light problems and improper lighting management: battery indicator lights aren't working, display backlighting isn't adjusting to ambient light changes, keyboard backlights not working, etc * Video and external displays not working: display brightness functionality not working properly, target video mode isn't working properly, external display isn't working, etc * General performance and functionality problems: abnormally sluggish behavior despite no CPU or disk usage, external ports not working, airport & bluetooth aren't showing up, external devices are not being found, etc So now that you've concluded you need to reset your SMC (Note that the SMC is on Intel Mac's only), here's how to do it on MacBook's, MacBook Pro's, iMac's, Mac Mini's, and Mac Pro's. Notice that the reset instructions are different for MacBook and MacBook Pro's if you have an internal or detachable battery. Reset SMC of a MacBook Air, MacBook Pro Retina, or MacBook Pro's with an internal non-removable battery This is how to reset SMC on most modern Mac laptops: Shutdown your MacBook Air / MacBook Pro Connect the power adapter to your Mac On the MacBook/Pro's keyboard, hold down the Shift+Control+Option keys and the Power button at the same time Release all keys and the power button at the same time Boot your Mac as usual Here's the key sequence to hold down: Reset the SMC of a MacBook Air or Retina MacBook Pro Do keep in mind that by resetting the SMC you will lose power specific settings, like the time it takes to sleep a Mac and other customizations to power settings. No big deal, but if you have made many changes to your hardware behavior you will want to adjust stuff like sleep behavior again. Reset SMC of an iMac, Mac Pro, Mac Mini Resetting SMC is different for non-portable Macs: Shut down your Mac Disconnect the power cord Press and hold the Mac's power button for 5 seconds Release the button Reattach the power cables and boot the Mac as usual Reset the SMC of a MacBook or MacBook Pro's with detachable batteries mac reset the smc Older MacBook laptops with a removable battery can reset SMC with the following approach: Shutdown the MacBook/Pro and remove the battery Disconnect the power adapter, hold the Power Key for 10 seconds Release the power key and reconnect your battery and power adapter Turn your Mac on Let boot as usual Hopefully that will clear up your problems, if not it might be worth a visit to the Apple Store or a certified repair center. I am trying to do the key lock trick that makes a letter key press forever by itself how do tou do it ?

Start off by heading into System Preferences, and then click on the Keyboard icon in the list. Once you're in the Keyboard panel, head down to the Modifier keys button at the bottom of the window. And now you can either change the Caps Lock key to "No Action", or you can remap it to be a Command, Option, or Control key instead. That's all there is to it. Those are the only 4 keys you can turn permanently on or off without doing special commands in the terminal screen. All the best to you, Kerry

Replace hard disk

Any 2.5" SATA hard drive will work (2.5"=notebook size). SATA III (three) is what you want. I would use Carbon Copy Cloner, or SuperDuper to copy your drive. Borrow a friend's USB or Thunderbold external hard drive bay to attach the drive until you copy your original drive. Then just swap the drives, and your MacBook will boot on the new drive. How do I find my home page?

Quit the browser by pressing Command + Q together. Then open the browser again. If that worked you should see your home page. If you want to get back to your home page quicker next time you can turn on the home button in the navigation bar. It's not there by default but you can add it. It would be helpful to know if you are using Safari or Chrome or some other browser. My bet is on Safari so here's how to do that in Safari. 1. In the gray area next to the address bar, right click or ctrl + click this empty gray space and you will see an option to "Customize Toolbar..." Click on that option. 2. In this next window that appears drag the home button onto the toolbar. I’m happy to help further over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/matt_7e951e081251ffbc
