From one day to the next the sound has disappeared. I have checked the sound preferences and the mute box is ticked but I cannot un-tick it. Under the sound preferences there is are no output devices found and no input devices found. I cannot understand. Also, 2 months ago I downloaded an Entourage Update and it somehow archived/deleted all my emails prior to that - took it to an apple shop, and they could not fix it - " anyway it is a 3rd party software etc.." I am constantly having problems with entourage. Anyway, any help ref the sound ?
I have a solution for you all. This fixed the problem for me. First, make sure you are all running 10.5.5. If you are not, run software update from the Apple Menu. If you are set there, go to Applications --> Utilities --> Disk Utility --> Make sure your Hard Drive is selected on the left hand panel --> MAKE SURE the First Aid tab is selected! --> Click Repair Disk Permissions. This may take a while, FYI. As soon as Disk Permissions have been repaired, restart your computer right away. That fixed the problem at my end. Good luck everyone!

For a month now I've had a problem with the sound on my Macbook Air stopping randomly. Up until now, my solution has been to restart. This has worked until today, when the speaker image on the volume is grayed out and will not even go up or down. No output device is listed under sounds.
I have updated all Mac software and am in the process of repairing permissions, but I'm still not sure that it will be repaired.
It sounds like the sound card on the main board has gone out. Since you have a Mac Airbook, I will almost guarantee that it is still under warranty and you should be able to go to apples website and make an appointment with the Genius Bar at the local store and then have them repair it for you. Back up any important data before you do this, including your itunes music collection and your photos.

my sound in ichat is not working how can i fix it?
Might sound crazy but open Garage Band and play a note on the default Grand Piano [below] (any instrument will do, it just opens first under Software Instruments) Playing the sound in GB will reset things sound wise. Usu. Weird, I know.
Also open Sound in Preferences and see what output is set to. Make sure its set to. Change back to Internal Speakers if it got whigged out somehow.

my mac book sound is not working?
check your audio driver, if it is ok, check your sound options if it is muted, volume control..all are fine..then could be your speakers..if you use head phone to check it, and it does not work at all, then your audio driver, reinstall it

Haven't heard the noise before, weird beeping. Screen all White blank
Leave the Macbook air turned on until the battery goes dead. Then Connect to power and start it up. That should solve the problem. You problem was caused by not letting an update install in full.

Macbook air Shift key will not disengage. I took it to the Apple store and they want to replace the keyboard. I took it home and took the keys off and checked for anything being stuck under the keys. Nothing there and the little nubs are not stuck down. As a result of the shift keys issue. Everthing is in caps. No numbers can be used.
Once a key starts getting stuck on a keyboard, it won't be long and more of them will have the same problem. The easiest fix for is to replace the keyboard. Cheapest place to get one most likely will be ebay.

was using my macbook while it was charging at the same time. then it made a small electrical sound and turned off really suddenly. i then noticed a really faint burning smell coming from but the computer didnt feel like it had overheated, it was slightly warm underneath where the battery is located but nothing unusual. the charger did feel quite hot though. ive tried everything to get it to turn back on and it wont.
Hi, I have the same problem. Now is in the Apple Store for revision. I'll let you know when they give me an answer.

Enter Your System lock PIN code to Unlock this Mac That Is The Problem with It, Any Way To Fix It? I Try So Many Times Looking Who Can Help Out With This Situation Which Is A Headache
You have set a password for it. If you cannot recreate it. You can call Apple. They charge $20 on most calls. Might give you a freeby on this problem. You will need the serial number on back of machine which I had to use a magnifying glass to read. Good luck
