I want to take the back off for repair. How do I
To whom it may concern
if you don't have 31XX or 4XXX model then let me know what you have
Ill assume you have either a 31XX, 4XXX model since those are the ones that are alittle harder to get apart then any other Magellan. Read below what I have replied to others with this question.
You have to be careful taking them apart or youll Break the power port and the head phone port right of the board And it will probably screw the board up. had a few were ppl tried to Take them apart the wrong way and broke the tracers right off the board (now there junk)
Note: always start on the side opposite the power port
Anyway, after the screws are out, use your finger nail if you can,(that's what I use) if not get yourself a very small flat screw Driver (jeweler type) and starting from the side opposite the power port (pictures below) and Head phone port (start on the side the power BUTTON is on, starting at the bottom, Slip it along the seam where the front and back of the case Meet, but don't force it down inside the 2 halfs, you want to just put the blade In far enough so it slides along the seem and that its is separating the 2 just enough to unlock the tabs from Each other see the pics There are 6 taps to break free..2 on the top, 2 on the bottom and 1 on each side....don't worry about the on on the port side. Just tip the back of the case upward and that side will come free on its own. When you put it back together, the port side goes in 1st. Tip the rear of the case up and slide it in under the ports and then lay the back down on to the front half and it will snap together.
Tips to remove and replace the port
Magellan power port replacement for the following models
Magellan 800, 860, 2000, 2200t, 3000, 3050, 3100, 3140, 4000, 4010, 4040,
4050, 6000t and the 5310
On some models, you may find it easier to replace the port by totally removing the
Board and always disconnect the battery
Assuming that the power port is still intact and the tracers on the board are Good.
If you don’t have a rework station at your convenience, you can use a good Solder iron with a small tip.
DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AS SOON AS THE REAR
COVER IS OFF!
1st carefully break the strap in half that goes over the front of the port, so you
Can remove one side at a time. Break it at the top at the little tab!
Apply a small amount of solder to the tip of the iron (this is to tranfer the heat
Quicker to melt the old solder, because you don’t wont to apply more heat then
Is needed)
Remove one side of the front strap by applying a small amount of solder
Then do the same to the other side.
Apply another small amount of solder to the iron and apply to one of the rear
Terminals/contacts and once solder is molten, tip the power port toward the tab that’s connected yet then do the other side and remove the old port.
The trick is to remove the old port without damaging the tracers on the board,
To install, make sure the centering pin is not broke off and still in the centering hole..if it is, use a paper clip or something to push it thru
Put a small amount of solder on each contact on the board then place
The new port on the board and apply heat it the tabs on the battery side while applying pressure so its flat against the board, then do the same with the other Contacts. If its not flush with the board apply pressure and reheat solder if your sure its in the centering hole

because once they’re damaged its junk. (especially the rear contacts,) one is + the
other is - the front contacts are also grounds.

I Bet I made that as clear as mud. I'm not much of an instructor as you might of guessed by now.
