if you take a putty knife put it in the crack slide either way till it stops pull it out move to where it stoped and push straight in that will release the clips

bCheck out a video on youtube. This is a fairly simple do it yourself, but you will need to remove the cabinet of the dryer just leaving the barrel. Remove back cover, remove lint screws. Slide belt between cabinet and barrel. Lay dryer on back and around tension pulley and motor.
Take of front of a maytag med6400tqo
if the lint filter is on top then the top always pops up,unplug the dryer,pull out the lint filter and remove the two screws in front of the filter,now there are clips one on each side of the top panel,stick a putty knife or screw driver between the front and top panel and push the clip in,get a flash light and look in between the top and front panel near the corners around an inch or two in and you'll see the clips,push in on them one at a time and lift the top,hope this helps,if you live in mass and need an appliance repair tech peter de's is a good company,781-438-9442

The F1 code is a thermister error code. You need to use a meter and check the thermister, it is located on the blower housing. Just remove the lower panel to get at it. Unplug it and it should read around 10K ohms at room temp. If it is very low or does not read at all it needs to be replaced. If it is good you need to check the wiring from the thermister to the board to see if it is good. If it is and still displays the F1 code you need to replace the control board. That board is located on the left hand side of the unit when you have the top off you can see it on the left hand wall. Here is a link to the parts for your unit.
