GE 5 cycle automatic heavy duty dryer
Turn off the electricity to the dryer.Try spraying the belt with automotive belt dressing inside that goes around the bucket.. If that does not work it is probably the bushing at the back of the dryer. you will have to remove the bucket to grease the bushing.if it is still good. judging by your details it seems good. But it could be dry.Needs lubrication.
GE 5 cycle automatic heavy duty dryer overheating
Hi Oxley St
BE SURE TO UNPLUG YOU MACHINE FROM THE WALL BEFORE YOU START ANY WORK.
Your problem sounds like it is a Thermostats/Thermistors malfunction. This will cause an overheat condition that you describe. You will have to locate the air tube that is going to the dryer drum. Some general area the heater is located. Is also where you will find most of them. They normally are round/oval shaped and have two wires connected to them. Take off the wires and with an Ohm meter set to "continuity" check your thermostat/thermistor.If you have continuity across the terminal it is not faulty.Be sure to check all of them. If this is not your problem then it will be the Control board if you have one on your machine.

GE 5 Cycle Automatic Heavy Duty Extra Large loud noise
All ge dryers have a center bearing on the back side of the drum and drum glides on the frontside. The glides make a scrubbing sound when bad and the drum is hard to turn. The rear bearing does a squeak thang when the plastic bearing wears thin and begins to make metal to metal contact between drum mount and rear bulkhead mount. It is an easy fix but the drum gotta come out. here is my pictorial page that shows how with videos and repair pix:

When I went to turn
It sounds like the drum bearing is bad. It can prevent the drum from turning and overheat the motor and cause it to shut off.
Another possibility is that the belt has broken and the motor is just spininig. Some dryers have a safety that prevents the dryer from staying on it the drum is not turning.
Dryer is clicking as the
Most dryer tops come off by releasing the clips at both front corners
Slip a 2" putty knife between the top and the front about 2" in from the end and push
The clip should release then do the other side and you should be able to rock the top upwards
